EA's Peter Moore Leaving To Become CEO Of His Favorite Soccer Team

The longtime gaming executive will take over Liverpool FC in June.

Electronic Arts' chief competition officer Peter Moore will soon join Liverpool Football Club, the English soccer team, as its new chief executive officer.

He's set to move to Liverpool and begin his new role with the team in June, the team announced on its website today. Moore is a lifelong fan of the team and was born in Liverpool.

The move comes as a surprise, as Moore only entered his current role less than a year ago, when EA founded its own competitive gaming division. He previously served as the company's chief operating officer and the president of EA Sports.

Prior to that, he was best known in the gaming industry for his time spent heading up Microsoft's Xbox business (where he famously racked up some tattoos) and Sega of America.

EA confirmed the news in a post on its own website from CEO Andrew Wilson.

"Peter has been with us here at EA for nearly 10 years, and I consider myself privileged to have had the opportunity to work alongside him for that entire journey," he said. "If you've seen him on stage, or follow him on Twitter, or have ever read an interview with him, you will have a sense of Peter's wit and charisma. What you should also know is that he is an unbelievable teammate, a tireless leader for our people, and his deep appreciation for great games and the passionate players in our communities is unwavering."

Wilson added that Moore will continue leading EA's competitive gaming business for at least a period of several weeks. It's unclear how soon his successor will be named.

So... does this mean EA could possibly become good again? (I don't follow the company much nowadays, sorry if it's a stupid question =P).

I was following EA during the days of Dead Space.  EA was the bad guy, and then it became Ubisoft.  But now, I dunno.  They do make nice Lord of the Ring games from what I hear.

Should have came back to become head of xbox.

EA hasn't held the LOTR movie-based license in years.  They made some decent games.  The Battle for Middle Earth games were pretty good if a bit shallow.

Conquest, on the other hand, was garbage.

Americans you know, but at least thats the easiest way to find out if someone is american :D

Its Football and they cant accept its the Most Popular Sport on the Planet and also the best/most popular sportsgame that exists !!^^

Always funny to see people to downplay sportsgames especially Fifa but also NBA, but without those Games consoles would sell a lot less because those games are HUGE Systemseller and therefore really good for console gaming.

Yeah and Peter Moore, i think for him comes a dream true to work for his favourite Footballclub, that must be a nice feeling ! :)
