Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony has sold 915k PSVR units to date

Not bad.

Only further proves that VR is a very niche part of the gaming industry.

Kinect was at ~9 million after the same time. Sure it wasn't quite as expensive but does that really explain that difference in sales? I think not. And we know how the bad the support for it was.

Overraction as expected.

These numbers are pretty good especially considering the number of psvr's actually made. How many are currently available to buy? Psvr wasn't available in my country up until recently.

Who knows how much it would have sold had it not suffered from shortages?

Close to 1m seems good enough to me for now.

Good numbers. I think I predicted 500k by the end of 2016 would be really good. Looks like they smashed it. Priority for Sony is now get costs down for next holiday and push it hard with games like GT Sports.

I wonder what sales numbers would have been like if they wherent constantly faceing stock issues.

Nice to finally have solid numbers.

I can't help but wonder how well it could have sold if you could actually find it at retail or online though. PSVR and PS4 Pro have had the worst stock issues in the history of the industry. It is really strange that Sony only expected to sell 1 Million in the 1st 6 months.

It is going to be very interesting to see what they have planned going into FY2017. VR and PS4 Pro are easily the best experience I have had in gaming since going from SNES and Saturn, to PS1 and N64. I hope the inclusion of VR on Scorpio helps bring more AAA titles to the medium. Sadley, it is going to take GTA, COD, Madden, and the rest of the already well known titles to get this to really take off. Hopefully those devs will do the right thing and leave traditional 3D games in the dust, like they did with 2D and Top down games once 3D became viable. Indies and smaller devs should now be making the 3D traditional games, while extreamly talented devs go forward, on creating the best games possible.

KBG29 on PSN&XBL

I think this device was rushed because of the VR fever and now they're stuck with this quantity, I don't expect more than 5 million units sold, not a terrible number for a peripheral but that means less support in the future. Not a sony problem but a vr problem as a whole.

Not a bad number for what it is, probably nearly as much as the other headsets combined.

This is basically how I feel.

While PSVR's 1 million sales is respectable for the price, its not good enough to encourage great support. However, it can atleast share games with PC VR devices.

The probably with Kinect is it was a on a single platform and apparently a lot of games didn't port well to the hardware. I feel like there is still potential in tech like Kinect, it just can't thrive on Xbox alone.
