Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony has sold 915k PSVR units to date

Not bad for a $400 peripheral. Sony better make sure it gets software consistently or otherwise interest will vanish.

Im suprised its this high, its really nice hardware but I wonder which game swayed almost a milion people, resident evil I guess, I meen when you pay 400 I personally would want at least a few long games or games I could play a lot before buying it.

It seems really expensive since there are so many short games supported but no real killer app for me personally anyway, good stuff for sony since they said they made a profit on the hardware and obv. they do on the software

Might explain why Microsoft is in a hurry to launch scorpio

Too bad Microsoft xbox one is getting support unlike psvr or the vita. Switch will more than likely flop as well.

So, VR overall is moving really slowly. If only the pope had said that this would be the case and that VR is too soon, too poorly implemented and way too expensive for mainstream appeal yet and really wasn't the next big thing in gaming...

Reaching the million soon! =)

There's a new video compilation of PSVR incoming games and some of them are great!!!

Hardly earth-shattering numbers, but pretty good nonetheless. Hopefully we get some software numbers from Sony at some point.

Unfortunately, with numbers like that, developers can't justify spending more than a couple million dollars making a game. Even at that it would be tough to make money.

Possibly, in hopes of growing the install base, Sony could invest real money in some games. History tells us they are more likely to drop support than invest in software to bolster hardware sales though.

Wel it is a peripheral that's more expensive than a PS4 pro.

This.

All things considered, I think it is doing really good.

They say it's at 150K vr users.  That's only out of people sending in game data, so it's probably a bit more than that.

The question is, how many people bought the game for VR that wouldn't have bought the game otherwise?

as PSVR user base seems really overrepresented and assuming they are not a _lot_ more likely to send out data (I see little reason why they would), I'd infer that a lot of them bought the game for VR, otherwise I would expect PSVR user base to be around 2-3% of the total PS4 user base

I don't really agree.

VR users are overrepresented compared to the entire PS4 userbase, but I'd expect that.  PSVR is a premium product.  The people who bought it paid 400 dollars for it, on top of the 300+ they paid for the PS4 itself.  Point is, the VR userbase is going to skew more hardcore than the general PS4 base.  The kinds of people who buy the PS4 and a couple of games a year are probably not going to be the VR customer.  I'd imagine the VR base buys more games in general, especially "hardcore" games like REVII.  By the same token, I'd also expect PS4Pro users to be overrepresented.

While the numbers are making me believe the PSVR is aiming to be another Vita/Kinect/3D TV/WiiU (in term of sales, as PSVR is def. a good piece of hardware) I really do not believe the Switch is going to flop :) I also believe Microsoft is going to come out with something special for the Scorpio (Xbox One Elite) including more than just a more powerful version (some added value or device). but well, only time will tell us !

Microsoft isn't going to bank on vr though. They will just let Occulus/Rift run on their device. Kinect hit guinness world records and now look where it is at. If psvr couldn't do decent numbers, it's dead.
