Except of course that this thread revolves around the  launch of a major piece of gaming hardware, and whether or not it's worth buying at or near launch.

There is absolutely a worthwhile discussion to be had here especially since you could expand it to talk about any console.

The problem is that there are those who would rather skip any meaningful conversation and just tell people they disagree with to stop talking.

Oh, they are.  It's killing them that someone isn't going to be buying the Switch at launch.  Especially the guy who said the OP's post/opinion was bullshit.  I guess some are more worried about the launch than others, reassuring themselves that there will definitely be someone to take that preorder or it's going to be a definite hit for Nintendo.  Childish if you ask me.

Trolling and mean-spirited?  Where?  If you are counting any negative threads posted about Nintendo/Switch, you are definitely being too sensitive.  Every console gets a good amount of good and negative threads.  What you usually do in those is debate the OP if you disagree with him/her.  Not tell them to basically go fuck themselves and their opinions.  I mean, I kinda get the anxiety surrounding the Switch.  After the Wii U and the clearly declining HH market, Nintendo needs this one.  Still, that's no excuse to want to block out negative opinions, especially when they are valid views.  We don't need the WW Nintendo fans to become like the ones in Japan who just basically forced Square to remove the N64 fishing reference from Nier because they saw it as a dig at their precious console.

Are you kidding me? That is either pure blindness or you are trying to see only what you want to see, this place has been infected with those kind of threads coming from people we all know have no interest at all in the company to begging with, so you can expect some people to be esceptic. And anyways reading the thread I found like... 3 maybe 4 posts of people ""ofended"" so I'm inclined to believe you are trying to create your own alternative narrative that fits with what you want to believe about a fanbase.

I just read another thread you were in basically calling the OP a troll, even though he had valid arguments and was actually responding to other posters without being a jerk.  And guess what?  A bunch of Nintendo fans were in there doing the same, getting riled up over someone's opinion and attacking the OP.  You guys need to just chill.  Debate the OP.  Or ignore it.  Don't just try to attack them.  Enjoy the Switch.
