Yep.  Definitely

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

This thread is interesting, The combined WiiU+ 3DS VS Switch should be really hard, if Nintendo decides a new handheld then it will be unrealistic, but if Switch is going to be there only system then they need a huge success, 30-40M life time won't be enough (that's world wide of course)

The numbers in the OP show just how much of an uphill climb the Switch has in replacing two systems. Yes, the Wii U did modest numbers but when you place that total on top of the successful 3DS, that's an imposing goal.

That total hardware units sold will contract is a very likely outcome, perhaps even by a significant degree.

I hope we can get some good software numbers (including digital) so we can find out if the Switch is selling a lot more software than either the Wii U or 3DS did on their own, which it has to do in order to be considered a success.

One successful system is better than one succesful and one failure though. It's just about about the raw number. I think that comparison is silly.
