Playing Shenmue 1 & 2 with HD resolution and modern controls would be fantastic. Maybe they could even add in the transfer save feature that the Dreamcast versions had!

Boy, I hope this is true. And please let it be Bluepoint. They are the fucking master of the remaster.

Still have my copy of the first. Couldn't play the second until I got it for Xbox 360 via backwards compatibility. By then, much of the appeal was gone. |
yeah didnt the second game release on ps2 and xbox or something. i definately had shenmue 2 but cant remember any of it. Weird because i can literally remember every scene fro m the original DC game (atleast at the beginning)

Dreamcast (in some countries but not the USA. I was devastated!) and Xbox. When Sega exploded, their franchises went everywhere. Many were exclusive to certain platforms. For a Sega fan, that was a nightmare.
GameCube got a few. PS2 got a few. Xbox got a few. You had to own all three to get the best they had to offer. Sadly, I only had PS2 and Gamecube. To this day, I still haven't played Jet Set Radio future.

I refused to buy an Xbox for Shenmue 2 when Sega had already localized the game. Microsoft pulled the same shenanigans that Sony pulled with Tomb Raider 2 for Saturn. They paid a developer not to release a complete game. I REALLY don't like that nonsense.

Well, I just started playing it earlier this year, and I thought it was fine. However, I frequently play early 3D games so I'm much more immune to its faults than most gamers would be.

Pretty much this. Loved it when it came out. It felt like something from the future. Now, it's really a chore to play. |
I've revisited the series recently and I think it holds up fairly well if you focus on the story, the world isn't as impressive these days. A few simple tweaks could make the games more enjoyable as well.
Anybody who plays Yakuza games can't complain about Shenmue. The Yakuza games feel like a chore, significantly longer, poor pacing, long cut scenes and repetitive. Yet people get excited about those games, go figure.
