Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Looks of A Console Has a Tremendous Impact on Sales

Even though your logic here is nonsensical, I have to say the PS2 was freaking ugly.

Have to agree. The PS1 won it's generation and was also an ugly duckling next to the sleeker Nintendo 64.

I will rate the last 3 gens for design 10 being the best looking of all obv.

Dreamcast - 8
Playstation2 - 7
Gamecube - 6
OG XBox - 6
Playstation 2 Slim - 9

PSP - 8
3DS - 7

Xbox 360 - 7
Playstation 3 - 6
Nintendo Wii - 8
Xbox 360 Slim - 7,5
PS3 Slim - 8.5
Nintendo Wii Slim - 8

PSVita - 9
3DS - 7.5

Wii U - 5
Xbox One - 6.5
Playstation 4 - 8.5
Xbox One S - 9
Playstation 4 Slim - 8
Playstation 4 Pro - 8
Nintendo Switch - 9

In my opinion design might have a small impact, I did buy the PS3 Slim when it came out and I am sure some people bought the Xbox One S because its not a giant box anymore (no offense)

Maybe by today standars. But it was a product designed for its time. Purposedly looking like a piece of professional sound equipment and often confused with a sound amplifier by non-gamers. Which was considered cool back then as growing music cultures were the hip thing and anything DJ like was not seen as something nerdy (even thought it was).

Not sure what you're on about. But I was there. It was ugly from the day I first saw it. I'm not saying this by judging it by today's standards.

Not sure, but in some cases it can maybe have some weight, I always thought the kind of childish look of GC help a lot the console to fail.

It would have been interesting to see how the GameCube would've done if it looked more sleeker/less toy-like, like say more like the Wii did. Obviously it wouldn't have been able to be quite that small for 2001.

You obviously didn't hang out with the cool crowd...

Don't get me wrong, I consider the Dreamcast the beauty of that gen, but it was another story from the point of view of people outside gaming circles. Especially those whose opinion defined what was considered "hip" back then. Simply put, looking like a console wasn't a good thing, and the Dreamcast and Gamecube were the last consoles to look like actual games consoles.

Based on your theory, the Vita would be the best selling handheld. Yet we know how it ends right?

Ofc you can also say this doesn't apply to handheld so my example is pointless

A handheld gamer only (for now).

NES: Grey/White.
Super NES: Grey/White
PS1: Grey/White
PS2: Black... Competed with other black/purple consoles
Wii: Grey/White
PS4: Black... Competed with other black consoles

You see what I'm getting at? When the primary version of a console is grey/white and not made by Sega (sorry, Dreamcast), it wins every time!

Even Gameboy and DS abide by the rules. Look at how well the Xbox One S did when Microsoft made white the primary color. If it was white from the beginning, we'd all be playing XBO right now.

The wii u looks similar to the wii and is not bulky. It is smaller than xbox one and ps4

WiiU looked like a long black penis. That scared folks.
