Forums - PC Discussion - Online games/mouse lagging on a 144hz monitor?

Quick question for pc peeps. Just recently discovered a few months ago (don't judge lol) that HDMI only supports up to 60hz. Since I have a 144hz monitor this was an interesting discovery and I did some research to find some available options. Apparently there was a DisplayPort cable that came with my pc (pre built Rx480) so I hooked that up and went into display settings to make sure it was displaying in 144hz.

Which it did. And all was well. Screen was extremely smooth!

However I've noticed that (especially while playing League of Legends) the "lag" and drop of FPS is almost unbearable at times. For those that play League or any other moba... At any crazy fight/busy section of the match my frames will drop like crazy. When I switch back to my HDMI this does NOT occur, however after looking at 144hz it's really ugly to look at.

There has to be some settings that I'm not doing correctly. My computer should be perfectly capable of running at 144hz (again Rx480 4gb, I56402p, 16 gb ram)

Please halp

Do the frames actually drop or does it just feel like that? Could be that you are susceptible to the judder with constantly changing fps. Try to lock the game to fixed fps.

Turned V-Sync off?

Lets think in reverse. If you have a 60 Hz monitor, you don't have to achieve 140 fps since the different isn't noticeable in your monitor. But since you play at the 144 Hz monitor your games plays at the uncapped frame rate but doesn't always stays at 144 fps so you might notice a lag because of the unstable fps. You might want to lock the frame rate. CMIIW.

EDIT: You might want to use fraps and see if the frame rate lock at 144 fps.

A handheld gamer only (for now).
