It is already solved, lol

It's not really solved cos you still need to connect to internet the very first time. Some ppl live in college and apt building that require authentication to connect to the internet

I guess they should hold off, eventually this patch like any other patches would be automatically in the device after day 1 hardware is sold.

I find hard to believe that you can't find a normal wifi, even if you have to go to a friend house or something, just to download the patch.

While I can see that being a potential problem, I don't think it's likely for someone to only have access to authentication-only WiFi. Also, worst-case scenario, you can just use a USB-to-Ethernet cable and update it via TV Mode.

That's most likely the final solution, but seriously this is a really bad oversight. I guess everyone is finally adopting that day1 patch nowdays

I don't think it's that bad, for one reason: Newer shipments will probably already have a more up-to-date version of the OS, so this will only be an issue for people that bought it at launch/close to launch.

Big letdown right up front. This largely destroys the portable aspect of the console until fixed. No VC, no WiFi on the go. I'm still pre-ordered but this is a hype killing botched launch.

Switch was not ready.

But honestly do we need to make such huge hyperboles? I almost never use online on my 3DS, that didn't destroy it its portable aspect XD

hopefully. but to think this problem actually affects the hardcore nintendo fans the most, it surely is disheartening.

It affects a tiny minority of early buyers, vast majority of people has a normal wifi to download the patch

Making a huge deal about this is typical of the internet but is just really irrational.

This should be very easily resolvable, even if it takes making a minimal web-browser only intended for such circumstances. I am surprised no one at Nintendo thought of this though -- I always assumed they had planned for a minimal integrated browser just for this thing.

Yeah, that is a problem, and it is strange that the Switch doesn't have an internet browser, but it seems like an easy fix that can come in an update. Hopefully that comes real soon.

EDIT: Nevermind, seems like that issue is solved already. Although, still no web browser. Nintendo should get on that one.
