Even without Japanese games the PS4 has a larger library of exclusives than the Xbox One.

But that's really besides the point. Since this whole idea that Japanese games don't matter is little more than a defense mechanism for wounded egos.

First, I don´t ever said "Japanese games don´t matter". They do matter, it is just that there is basicaly nothing Microsoft can do to capture this audience and round those developers. The best they could get was Recore, and God knows how much they sinked on Scalebound.

Those developers don´t even bother speak english.

Two, doing the math for the big budget games worth counting (or do you want to include "Life of Black Tiger"and other on the list?), the Bloodborne, Nioh, Ninokune, Yakuza.. etc do shift the numbers in favour of Sony.

See, here's where the problem lies. When you say "games worth counting" you shift the conversation away from what games there are, to what games do we count.

Even taking out Japanese games I think there's a very good chance the PS4 has more exclusives. But holding up "games worth counting" without anything but an abstract idea of what that is kills any chance at a productive conversation.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

1- this guy just saw Horizon getting good rewiews - may be not GOTY worth

2- He than pulls from his memory a few new games of both platform. Has he played them? Or just hersay?

3- He thinks "Wow, Sony has so many new franchises and MS only its top tier franchises".

4- He starts writing the article, than go to a quick google search and see some of older Xone exclusives that unfortunetly didn´t delived.... and igore the other few PS4 games that failed - 1886, Knack, Killzone SF, Life of Black Tiger, Beyond Two Souls...

5- So, he reworks the text to include those games "en passant", however, the spirit of the article remains.

Semi-valid points.

Care to explain why XB1 doesn't has a SINGLE exclusive that received a MC of higher than 85? Every game on Metacritic for XB1 that received higher than an 85 is also available of 360, PC, PS4, or some combination of the above, whereas PS4 has five true exclusives in that range?

Forza Horizon - 91

http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one/forza-horizon-3

Forza 6 - 87

Ori and the Blind Forest - 88 ( no a big budget)

But even if that were the case, one could argue that was just bad luck.

Oh... ah... I see "true exclusives". Is that still a thing? Are you guys realy arguing about "true exclusives"?

So.. yeh, Microsoft is doomed.

Have you bother to read or think about my coment?

I was talking about system sellers, not "Life of Black Tiger"  or "SKYLIGHT FREERANGE 2" or even legitime smaller games that are just... there and no one cares - for better or worst, I don´t care.

Point being - Major Nelso in the last 5h has posted 13 new games comming today to the XOne. I realy don´t care about any of them. Don´t matter if they are exclusives or not.

You have only to be reasenable. Do the math and check Sony and MS big guns ever year since 2013. It´s about the same with Sony geting "free" bonus with Japanease games.

I have to say after reading the whole thread, it's quite hilarious for Xbox fans to dismiss Japanese games, as if only Japanese gamers play them (they don't.) Uh, wasn't it your man Spencer who just went over there to beg for ports of those games you say don't count? I guess they must count for something if he made a special trip over there.

The other thing is that the XB1 isn't that far behind the PS4 in the US in terms of hardware sales and yet, many Japanese publishers aren't willing to port their games to the XB1 and go Playstation-only, PS/PC, or PS/Switch/PC. While most Japanese games are niche and don't sell a whole lot, Japanese publishers are willing to localize their games because there's money to be made overseas. A lot of these games skip the XB1 is because the publishers don't think the platform will return a profit.

It comes down to first party studios, especially since the XOne isn't getting the third party exclusives like the 360 was, and since that is the case, the gap will grow even more. MS has one successful (critical + financial) first party franchise (Forza) while every other notable exclusive for Xbox was third party. That's horrible.

Even if we were only talking about "system sellers" Which is exactly the time of abstraction I was talking about, what do you think that list would look like for MS?

Halo 5, Gears 4, Titanfall, Forza 5,6 Horizon 2,3...

Compared to Uncharted 4, Infamous SS, Killzone SF, Until Dawn, LBP3, Ratchet & Clank, Driveclub with Horizon launching in four days...

Eight games from as many franchises vs. seven games with four Forzas? Not a single Japanese game on the PS4 list either.

I will reiterate that I don't think it makes sense to leave out games that aren't "system sellers". To suggest that Ori or Resogun don't belong in this conversation seems silly to me.

Sad reality of things. I guess Scorpio will have to settle for having the best version of multiplats because it takes years to get great exclusive games and Microsoft just hasn't planted those particular seeds in their garden. I love my XBO. All three of them. When it comes to libraries, Xbox isn't bad but Sony just takes the cake.

What are the chances of Scorpio having the superior multiplats on a consistent basis though? These games would still have to run on PS4/ XOne, and I don't see developers moving away from PS4P as the lead console, due to the sales.

I can tell you got halfway through a list before realizing that your entire list was on other platforms.

And yeah, true exclusives are a thing. It's not exclusive if I can play it elsewhere after all. That's why I didn't count about half of the "exclusives" for PS4 that are over 85MC.
