Forums - Gaming Discussion - Switch battery life: 2h 48m when playing Zelda

I dont know how to post twitter posts on here but the guy who had this problem said that it doesnt happen on the 2nd Switch unit he has so its very likely do to the fall.

Yeah, I just read that tweet, but he also goes into more detail in later tweets, seems there's still an issue with the joy cons clip being very fragile, not exactly something you want from something that is designed to hold the controller in place.

I still stand by my assertion that they are most likely going to quietly release a revised version with a stronger latch material within this year.

Wouldn't it be a safer design if the joycons slide up from the bottom instead of slide down from the top? Even if the the release pins fail, the main device couldn't be pulled down by gravity this way.

Sure, one of the JoyCons could fall down instead, but these are cheaper to replace than the main device.

I thought long and deeply about this, and I always had the impression Joycons slided up from the bottom, because outside taking the Switch out of the dock that way, that would be the most convenient and safe way to do so.

Dunno why they made it that way, as illustrated by this xD

Would be a safer design, but also less convenient. The way its made, you can slide on and off the Joy-Cons while the console is in the dock. which works as a charging station for both the console and Joy-Cons, so that's going to be common usage for the majority of people. It would be a bit of a hassle to always have to remove the console from the dock to put back on or remove Joy-Cons.

Well, I wouldn't remove them at home and use the Pro controller instead for TV mode ;)

Thank you for understanding. Yes, the values are different because the tests were different. Also, i don't think your youtuber was playing the game aswell. He just left it on a demo loop.

He specifically says that he was playing it normal with a Pro controller, and you can see the headphones are conected.

Don't expect me to take random youtuber as an authority, but who the hell plays portable mode with a pro controller? What a weird test.

So... if you play with headphones and pro controller and your gamepad stays in one place at 75% brightness, you may get 3 hours according to Mr. Youtuber! Glad we got that straightened out.

Battery is still crap. You understand that? No, of course you don't.

Ok. The battery life isn't the best in the world. Now what? Nintendoomed?

They'll probably put a better battery like with any revisions. Heck, the battery is replacable as well. Not the end of the world :^)

No, that was it. I don't think Nintedoomed, but i think they may have to make a sucessor to the 3DS because i am doubtful that the switch will capture that segment, or as you say, they need to make a revision asap.

We will see.

I will say that an xl version is very good. As long as it doesn't make it bulky.

I'm trying to remember where I just read this but apparently it can top 3 hours on a lower brightness setting. Battery life will vary depending on whether you're outside in daylight (where you need a lot of brightness) or inside (where you need less).

I suppose that's obvious, but I didn't realize it'd make quite that big a difference as apparently someone who stuck with 100% brightness was down near 2 hours 40 minutes.
