Forums - Politics Discussion - Trump revokes Obama guidelines on transgender bathrooms

Nice work Trump. There was just too much opportunity for abuse under Obama's guidelines.  It's time for some massive spending on having 3 bathrooms, one male, one female, and one unisex that the trans community can use if they don't like using the bathroom of the gender they were born as.

That has a lot more potential for abuse.

And a transsexual wouldn't just do that, either.

I´m not sure about that.  Do they ?

There are two trangenders on the building I work and they don´t care, they use both bathrooms. I saw that happening in public bathrooms too.

That´s  not about what they "feel"to be ... it´s about what they actually are.

That's pretty vague.

1. How did you know that they were transsexual?

2. Did they use them separately before/after coming out?

Cannot say i give a shit which toilet people use, if you need to go, just go.

You don't think labeling a transgender bathroom will lead to abuse? Right now they're going into their identified bathrooms and no one is the wiser. Do it your way and guys will vandalize the facilities and/or wait inside/outside to harrass them. Remember the white/black bathrooms and water fountains?

I didn't say to label it as a trans bathroom. Some public places already have a 3rd option, the plaque has both a man and a woman on it, it's usually big enough for just one person, they're usually handicap accessible, and they usually have a locking door. They're designed to be used by anybody that wants to use it. The restroom for your gender isn't very clean or  it stinks because somebody just let a massive fart, use the unisex bathroom instead. Are you a parent who want to take their young kid in a safe locking bathroom, use the unisex bathroom. Have a shy bladder, use the unisex bathroom. They're designed to be used by anybody and I frequently use them when I find one somewhere because I like the privacy of having a lock. Wouldn't be too hard to put one such bathroom in any government funded public institutions like government buildings and public schools. Getting department stores and gas stations and such to pay to put them in would be more difficult, but anything worth doing is rarely easy.

A simpler solution is just allowing transsexuals to use the bathroom they're more comfortable with.

This is really confusing.

Imagine if a transgender man (i.e. a "woman") decides to go into a men´s bathroom. Or a trangender woman (i.e. a "man') decides to use a woman´s bathroom. As today a simple look can be considered sexual harassment, I can see people going nuts on lawsuits against any stranger that gives them a suspicious look when going into a bathroom.

This is the sorf of rule that doesn´t work at all. Public bathrooms are separeted exactly for avoid embarassing situations like that, besides sanitary purposes, as man and women have different bodies and different ways to deal with their physiological needs.

I think public places and stuff should have a separate bathroom for transgenders, as those that already exists for parents with children or for people with special needs. It would be simpler and avoid unecessary controversy

That will make discrimination against them even worse. I can already imagine someone with a gun going into a transgender bathroom and shooting everyone up in there.

do transgenders have club meetings in bathrooms? That is such a weird situation I cant even picture it.

I would rather have separate bathrooms than unisex. Womens bathrooms have lines, have blood and have tampons. I dread having to clean the womens bathroom at my job because I know it will be terror. I also dont think that the concerns of the natural sexes should be ignored because others feel hurt they cant pee in the other bathroom. It is awkward to share a bathroom with the other sex, so if transgenders feel the need to do their business in a bathroom opposite their actual sex, then its better than the alternative.

Muda Muda Muda Muda Muda Muda!!!!

Transgender in Elementary school? C'mon. Remember this is about schools. How about the confused kid goes to the teachers restroom and it solves all the problems without changing the basics of bathrooms...

I simply see too much room for abuse there. Any pervs could easily claim they're trans just so they can get into the opposite restroom to try and get a peek, or worse.

Same-sex abuse can happen too, you know. An adult male can go into the men's bathroom and abuse a male kid.

I agree, that's already a concern, and it's one reason why alot of parents take their kids in those locking unisex bathrooms, another reason why I like the idea of having more of them.

And where are they going to get the space for that in schools? Would they even be used enough to justify them? How much would they get bullied by the other students for using them?
