Forums - Politics Discussion - Voting age should be raised and tied to income and intelligence

This plan is

good 21 11.48%

not good 152 83.06%

maybe, at least we should... 10 5.46%

Total:183

-Age to vote increased to 26

-Minimum income of 30k/year

-Minimum IQ of 105

Because only the wise, successful and intelligent vote, we will instantly get better politicians!

This does not mean the rest of the population is not represented. They will hold the leaders accountable in a poll organized every 4 years, a simple measuring the performance of the govt. There will be no campaigns to sway public opinion. If the majority disliked them, they'll be unable to run a 2nd time.

This important poll will make all the difference. It will lead to a country that's run by better people, who also have an interest in keeping all of the country happy.

No offense to the OP but wow, what a silly premise. You think this is the reason we have crappy politicians? You think it's the people and not the greedy, dishonest politicians themselves? Sad!

Dishonest politicians continue to stay in power by getting the votes of the people that are easily controlled and manipulated.

That's terrible. Let only the highly educate and well off vote and lets see what happens with your representation. Expand public education and tackle poverty more effectively instead.

You will see, once this system is in place, the politicians will do everything to please the proletariat, because the power to take them down will be vested in them.

Makes sense to me. I don't think the US would have had any of the last 5 presidents if that were the case.

And what about the intelligent but also rich corrupt folk?.

We still have idiotic rich corrupt people in this world, but that isn't to say that there aren't intelligent ones either.

Also the votes for a few might not encompass what the majority want, something to also consider.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

No.

What happens if there is literally a decline in the available jobs? Why should those people loose their right to vote?

I.Q. Tests would be pointless, you can have the highest I.Q. in the world, but if you haven't studied up on a particular topic that a Politician is trying to sell... than you can literally be clueless about said topic.
Ergo. I.Q. Isn't going to be tied with better political representation.

Age? I have seen children act more responsible than 50 year olds.

Don't restrict democracy.

But a democracy only works with nations with an average IQ around 100. Much lower and corruption and tribalism completely take over.

No, no, no, no, no... That goes against everything democracy stands for.

Democracy is not a nation-wide council on making decisions. It is supposed to be a collection of our individual interests. The poor, the young and the uneducated do also have interests, and their faults do not strip their right to have their interests represented.

Example: forced service in war times. Is it correct for people that can't be drafted to decide that the younger need to make the sacrifice?

Our interests differ. All must be represented.

Bet with PeH:

I win if Arms sells over 700 000 units worldwide by the end of 2017.

Bet with WagnerPaiva:

I win if Emmanuel Macron wins the french presidential election May 7th 2017.

I'm just going to say, this is a really bad idea. So many people have fought for the right to vote. If something was ever done like this, expect a civil war.

Lol age limit increased to 26 and an income of 30k/yr. I thought this country was the land of the free. Can't wait till California secedes.

I'm quite surprised it isn't a Rol thread.

Also, just saying that you need to make 30K a year is an oversimplified definition of success. Living off heritage interest does not make you successfull, in my mind.
