Forums - Sony Discussion - Will Naughty Dog's Next IP be developed with a more fully realised multi-game story arc from the outset?

Just reflecting on the IP we've had from Naughty Dog over the past few generations:

Crash Bandicoot: a game more or less without story. Sequels probably hoped for, but no particular need to plan anythign beyond "make the same style of game"

Jak and Daxter: The original game was a complete story with no clear scope for a sequel. It was so well sewn up that Jak had to be propelled far into the future to make a sequel work.

Uncharted: Also the first game was an adventure romp with no broader story arc, and no set up for more. Drake's story was backfilled as they went along. But a different, and creatively and narratively better approach is to write Drake's life history right at the beginning and reveal it over a series of games.

TLOU: lots of people felt so satisfied with how the game ended that there was more than a handful of people feeling like a sequel would not be a good move. And it sounds like Naughty Dog was not setting in motion a bigger story to be told.

Naughty Dog has grown a lot in confidence creatively over the last 10 years or so, and their reputation for making great games is established. They can certainly allow themselves to plan for a new IP with a multi-game series with a wide story arc firmly in mind right from the conceptual stage. I'd like to see what Naughty Dog can do with a world and story arc that requires multiple games and multiple main characters.

Jak and Daxter had a complete story? That secret ending clearly hinted toward a sequel. xD

the real question is: will Naughty Dog's new IP still have the heavy SJW influence from Neil like Uncharted 3/4/TLOU 1/2?

Can't quite agree there. I think a lot of the charm of Uncharted is that every game is episodic, and for the type and genre it is, that fits perfectly well. You can have a multi-game story arc without needing to link every game narratively.

I cant quite answer the question because we don't know what their new IP its gonna be, and I think writing a whole story from the start works well with certain type of games, but limits options for other type of games. But if it is a similar experience to TLOU it'd probably be the best way to go.

Next IP will be full of waifus that look 12 years old , full anime, a story with a male white protagonist that can bang all those waifus. R rated also , lots of hentai sex.

or maybe not have a slim woman beat Drake & his brother at the same time, two heavy build muscular men that have been climbing things and trained all their life since they were kids and one was in prison doing nothing but training, but i guess in your feminist mind that's ok right? i bet you'll be the happiest living being on earth when Ellie will chocke out giant men using the force of feminism in TLOU2

Are you saying a highly military trained female killer couldn't beat up 2 experienced, but still amateur adventurers?

David and Goliath is in the Bible and that's surely not SJW propaganda. 300 Spartans isn't a homoerotic SJW fantasy (well the movie might be, but the actual historical event wasn't). It's clear that superior training, tactics and strategy can overcome brute strength and numbers advantage. Drake and Sam are also not heavy built, they are pretty normal physique, and they are middle aged as opposed to Nadine being somewhat younger.

So you basically have nothing to go on.
