Forums - PC Discussion - Thoughts on Ryzen?

Soooo AMD just had their press conference showing off the Ryzen processors....

  • Ryzen 7 1800X: 8C/16T, 3.6 GHz base, 4.0 GHz turbo, 95W, $499
  • Ryzen 7 1700X: 8C/16T, 3.4 GHz base, 3.8 GHz turbo, 95W, $399
  • Ryzen 7 1700: 8C/16T, 3.0 GHz base, 3.7 GHz turbo, $329
Thoughts on these?? I'm pretty excited for at least some healthy competition in the market; which is always good for every consumer. I feel like the prices could have been a bit more competitive... It seems a consistant $30 cheaper than the Intel counterpart is what they went for; but i guess it's better than nothing.

Currently own:

Impressive on paper but I m still waiting for more benchmarks.

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I think AMD has really stepped up to the plate, especially after looking through the leaked 3rd party benchmarks.

Ryzen is a real gem, I wish consoles had faster processors in many simulation games, strategy games open world games and especially in VR and stuff the processor is key for those high framerates. The jaguar is a horrible processor in current gen consoles.

I hope at some point we will see much faster processors, like the ryzen, in consoles. That could really add a lot for developers to work with :)

The pricing is great, i just want to see more game benchmarks.

As an avid overclocker of any system i configure, I would like to see independent tests on thermals, memory perf scaling and overclock headroom for the Ryzen 5 1600X and the Ryzen 7 1700 since those compete in the unlocked i7 range, but offer more cores/threads.

PC I i7 3770K @4.5Ghz I 16GB 2400Mhz I GTX 980Ti FTW

Consoles I PS4 Pro I Xbox One S 2TB I Wii U I Xbox 360 S

Prices are nice and will likely sway me to the Red team over Intel, but I'm still waiting on the final benchmarks before I make a final decision.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Nah, just bought a new CPU that will last me for some years. If Intel keeps the high end performance crown until then I will have to go Intel again.

$30 cheaper than the Intel counterpart? What's the price of intel's 8core 16 thread you're comparing those to?

Exactly...

The most important here will be to see the IPC of these processors and games starting to make use of those real 8 cores.

I'm hyped to see some real world benchmarks, but for now I've got a good feeling about AMD.

Just got last year a 6700k and a gtx 1070 for battlefield 1, so realistically I'll be aiming for Ryzen+ & Navi on the next update.

Bring it!

Been waiting years for Ryzen. Still running a FX 8350. If the benchmarks are real I am all in.

Any word on a release for Vega?

I use my CPU for editing videos and stuffs. I'm not switching to AMD.
