Forums - General Discussion - NASA has found 7 earth sized planets around a single star outside our solar system!

Perhaps the future will be like 'Dark Star' where we go around blowing up planets with intelligent life that might compete with us to colonise our galaxy.

One of my all time favourites...it's been a while since I've watched it, but wasn't Dark Star's mission to destroy planets that are calculated to drop out of orbit (or something like that) and make a mess in its host system?

Is this an actual image of one of the planets???

Sadly not - it will be a long time before we get to see proper images of any kind of exoplanet.

But that's already in english... maybe an explanation?

That they rule, and it's their territory, so don't come thinking you can destroy earth and move here.

So if you aren't one of them, get the fuck out.

I'd have to agree with the sentiment.  I think we have a lot of lessons to learn here before we try to export our patented brand of destruction and genocide to another paradise.  The good thing is that with our technology and tendency towards violence we probably won't be able to escape our own treachery...not in time at least.

Yeah I agree.  If we think we can just "run away" from our problems we're in for a rude awakening.  We want to build a wall to keep our own neighbors out, so why should some other world accept us?  Heck, they may feel they need to "build a wall" to keep US out!  Oh what sweet irony that would be...

Sorry to get all polical, just wanted to get that off my chest, hehe.

If there are aliens we must nuke the planets before they nuke us!

No...pretty sure they were destroying planets that might have "intelligent life" on them...so they didn't try to destroy our planet.  Great movie...precursor to Alien, which was written by Dan O'Bannon who plays Sgt. Pinback...who is the namesake of one of the best bands ever, Pinback.

If only there was an exoplanet that that was only one light year away from Earth

Proud to be a Californian.

That's nice let's just leave it at that before there some hazardous life on those planets.

Yes that was its mission to remove unstable planets that might collide with stars and create super novas. I didn't mean the exact purpose was the same just the going around destroying planets was.

The WOW signal was real people... I told you guys!
