Forums - Nintendo Discussion - GameStop seeing “tremendous demand” for Switch, higher pre-order attach rate than Wii U

I'm pretty sure they mean scapler demand.  We've heard this talk before from gamestop and nothing materialzed when it was all said and done.  Not to say that the switch won't experience the same thing but a little skepticism is warranted.

Not really, actually Wii U had very good launch with around 3m sold consoles at launch, problems with Wii U sales started right after launch in January.

Switch will have a strong opening, no doubt, the actual problem comes later, if it'll be able to keep relevant or fall like the Wii U.

Honestly, it doesn't attract me in the least, so I'm about to finally get a 3DS, rather than it.

The Wii U launch was more or less in line with what Nintendo typically does for a November launch to the end of the year (Gamecube 3.29 not adding the .51k from Japan's early launch, Wii 3.19, Wii U 3.09).  Two of those three consoles were commercial failures and one was a success... so taking this statement from Gamestop with a grain of salt is ok because these preorders are not indicative of its future.

Those preorders must be in great part for games that won't be available on march 3rd.

Thank you for taking the time to dig out those numbers.

Also, the Switch won't do better, simply because Nintendo only made 2 millions of them for launch... So well, we can already expect the usual PR comment "Switch's launch is a tremendous succes, the demand is so high that we can't satisfy every customers, we'll do our best to produce as many units as needed in the coming months blablabla"

wowie zowie! We'll believe it when we see it.

Point is that are all actually good and very successful launches, but this time having launch outside holiday season in March and with this statment, that is oncouruging. Of Course this mostly talk about launch pre orders and interest, we dont know how thing will be in few months.

nice - please sell 2 mil first month!
