Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Perfect Pitch: Pocket Monster Hunter

A few days ago, Capcom was revealed to have been close to Nintendo, when the Switch was in the early phases; this makes me hope for Pocket Monster Hunter to be developed and released for the Switch.

In Capcom's statements, they mentioned their desire to develop AAA games for the system, and I ask what would be more AAA than a crossover between their wildly enjoyable Monster Hunter franchise and the overwhelmingly popular Pokemon franchise?

I understand that many people would, at first be quick to state that The Pokemon Company would not licence Pokemon for use in such a game, to that I have one word to offer you: Pokken.

Personally, I believe that Pocket Monster Hunters could not possibly sell under one million units, there is just to much that could be done with the game: It could be set in a time before the invention of Pokeballs, a wild world where human need to kill to survive.
Humans killing Pokemon has been detailed in the mainline games, in places like the Canalave library.
Pokemon have also been depicted as tools for war, such as in Pokemon Conquest or Lt. Surge's war story.

I am eager to read you thoughts on the potential of a crossover game, thanks for reading.

If you don't know what the hell Monsta Hunta is and you've never played it before, sure it might work lol. Being clever with their names is 1 thing, actually having an idea what to do with is another, and you haven't really demonstrated a pitch other than realizing they both have Monster in their title and connecting them.

I mean let's say the Pokemon Company decides to screw their franchise by having it turn into a mature game with Pokemon being killed and used for war. It's gonna be a game that mixes both franchises and ends up with an inferior product:

-no more Poke open world but small connected areas

-Introduction of extras in the Poke world that will ruin the whole franchise. All types of armor, guns and sword sets which never existed before will entirely change the face of the franchise.

-no more huge monsters to slay but tiny Pokemon

-which basically takes the joy out of both franchises. You don't get the satisfaction of slaying big beasts nor catch Pokemons and train them nor go on a quest in a big map.

So nah, you still got Monster Hunter Stories though.

This. A Monster Hunter game with Pokémon instead of monsters simply wouldn't work. Of course, it would sell a lot, but it would just be a downgraded version of Monster Hunter.
If they would do a crossover, they should make a game that has at least some more game elements from Pokémon.

As much as it sounds very weird, I would love anything that mixes up the somewhat stale pokemon formula. If you don't copy the Monster Hunter gameplay mechanics exactly, but instead just turn Pokemon into more of an action oriented game instead of a turn based game. Has potential. But I somehow doubt this would happen.
