Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why BotW's review scores will be lower than expected

honestly the only thing from your list that could effect it negatively is the open-world aspect, but only if there is no fast travel system. but i'm assuming they have something.

There is a fast travel system. You can warp to any shrine that you've previously visited, of which there are 120.

1-4 have no influence on a proper review.
5 Voice acting is irrelevant for the score. Most Zelda games were open world.

I think it is fairly possible to get into the 90s. There are enough nostalgia ridden critics out there.

You are overestimating the importance of nostalgia. A game wont get a score of 90+ because of nostalgia alone.

welp, then nevermind that. it'll do fine.

I think it'll be the reverse. It will get a free pass from a lot of reviewers. Too many of them were raised with Nintendo, like Vivster said.

I will be surprised if the game doesnt get at least a 90.

120 is ridiculously large. I guess that eradicates fear of lack of content?

Now it is up to whether reviewers will nitpick or not

Like I said, this can go either way. Worst case scenario, we still get a good game (unless Nintendo pulls a Sega on us and releases a game worse than Superman 64).

Of course not. It will get 80 from everything else and just 10 points nostalgia on top.

I can already hear all the critics reminisce about the good old Far Cry 3.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I don't think most of these issues should affect how good the game is overall. I may be wrong, but a lot of them seem to be grudges to hold against a game rather than judging it after a full playthrough.

You could be right, but then again, Skyward Sword somehow ended up with 93. It will be a shame if this game doesn't score higher than Skyward Sword, which I think it most likely will.

I also have no idea how Skyward Sword didn't score at least a 97.

It would score 97 if it had pro controller support (I believe it was called the classical controller for Wii?)

A few of these applied to Twilight Princess: delayed, multi-platform with similar versions, etc. Twilight Princess still received a 95 metacritic.

This game is going to be compared positively to Skyward Sword, and will likely end up with an equivalent or greater score.
