Today Horizon's embargo was lifted and the game met great scores from reviewers but there's a but: can it compete/be nominated for GOTY ? While it's not unusual for games in the high 80s on Metacritic to be nominated I feel as if this year has so many good titles coming (many probably aren't even announced yet) that it'll be hard for Horizon to even be nominated: RDR2, Zelda, Nier, Persona 5, ME: Andromeda and Mario Odyssey are only a few of the biggest releases, many of which follow a long list of games in the 90+ category, of course GOTY isn't chosen simply by its Metacritic but also by how many people enjoyed the game but I can't help but wonder if people will remember of it while looking back at the end of the year (I expressed this same doubt for Zelda a few weeks ago). What are your thoughts ? Will Horizon be nominated for the GOTY 2017 or will it be forgotten ?

Depends on what else comes out.

Maybe you should ask people after they've actually played it. If you wanna base it solely on the score, then it might be put up as a nominee, but is very unlikely to win

Generic shit always forgotten in the two weeks. So, Horizon is a perfect candidate for that.

Daily reminder that Dragon Sage won GOTY-2014 over the Bayonetta 2. This "award" has no meaning for actual gamers.

right now, I would say it will just be short. Zelda, Mario, Red Dead 2, Persona 5 will be held above it I think

Man, there's some amazing content coming out this year. A lot of GOTY material here. But Horizon has a chance, without a doubt.

It better be nominated since its probably Sony biggest IP releasing this year alongside Gran Turismo Sport.

Its to early to call that but at least for me it looks like its gonna be one of the most enjoyable and interesting games of the year.

With a metascore of 89 (currently) its most ceraintly a candidate for GOTY, as its currently the best reviewed game of the year. But its too early to have this conversation. This year is gonna be filled with great games tho.
