Well what is the benefit of it on the PS4 and XB1? I mean the Switch doesnt have Achievements/Trophies and you couldnt redownload your PSN and XBLA games onto the PS4 and XB1 anyway. |
Wait, are you sure? I thought there were a good amount of games I had gotten on PS3 that I could just re-download on PS4 after I got one. That's the nice thing that Sony does with cross-buying. Pay once, play everywhere. It'd be great if there were a similar feature on Switch linked with your NNID. Like hey guys, we know you've bought each iteration of this 30 year old game for the past three generations. Here, this time, have it for free (or at least heavily discounted).
It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

That's why I never paid for VC games lol, that's pretty fucking late |
Its never late, and digital purchase on console wasn't thing on console 14 years ago.
Bet Shiken that COD would outsell Battlefield in 2018. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8749702

Well the most obvious one is that if your system breaks down and you need to get a replacement then there's no hassle with getting your games transferred. Just log in to your account and redownload them, easy. Haven't actually needed that in gen 8 yet, but I'm currently on my 3rd PS3 and can't even remember how many 360s I've had so being able to redownload easily like that is very useful.
Plus, like zelmusario said some digital purchases did transfer over. Sony have re-released a few games on PS4 which were free to anyone that had bought the PS3/Vita versions. And MS's backwards compatibility allows people who bought the game on 360 to redownload it free (I think, haven't tried it myself so not 100% sure).

Pretty sure the games couldn't be redownloaded on PS4 and have to be purchased again.

Depended on the game. Some, like Journey and Sound Shapes definitely could be. Seems to have been almost entirely indie games while AAA ones got the "remaster" treatment instead. But that's still something.

Good news, but I'm not going to thank Nintendo for something that should have happened 10 years ago.
About time. PS1 classics purchased in 2006 work on PSP, PS3, Vita...
After a decade of ineptitude Nintendo needs to finally get to grips with online accounts and stores.
Bought a Switch after it was cool.
