it's been a little more than 8 years since Ensemble Studios' closure

I've never played an RTS.  I'm considering trying this one out. A score of 90+ would likely push me over the edge. Even the upper 80s would probably  make me buy it . Below 80, and I will almost certainly pass.  It's that 80-85 range where l'm going to have a hard time deciding.

Unfortunately, it looks like it is falling right in that  good but not great range.

Halo Wars is probably one of the better RTS games if you are just starting out in the Genre, it's been streamlined for more casual audiences... It doesn't have the fast pacing, micro-managing requirements of say, StarCraft. That can be a good thing. StarCraft gets hectic.

That's pretty good. I really liked the first one so I'll pick this up for sure. Probably not at launch, since there's so much else out right now, but I'll get it down the road.

If you liked Halo Wars 1. You will like this. It's more of the same, but with a few evolutionary (Rather than revolutionary...) changes.

I have sunk a few hours into it, the Single Player campaign seems short if you don't push for all the objectives, but it's extremely enjoyable.
I would prefer a shorter more enjoyable experience than one that is long, boring and drawn out anyway...
The story is certainly the strong point, leagues ahead of Halo 4 and 5. - And not the buggy mess that was The Master Chief Collection.

Graphically it looks great. I'm not a fan of the Art direction on the units though, but eventually you forget about it and even appreciate it as it helps for units to stand out more.

Sound wise... It's amazing. Great musical score.

Keen to blast through the Multiplayer tomorrow.

And you know what? Pre-ordering the Antriox Ultimate edition was worth it for the simple fact I got Halo Wars: Definitive Edition anyway.

Sad to see the game not scoring higher, it is one of the best console RTS games.

Playing through it for a review. Put in probably about 20-25 hours. I've quite enjoyed it, though it's a little awkward to micromanage and juggle multiple things at times when things really heat up and there's a lot happening at once.. Still, a lot of fun overall and probably one of the better console RTS games you'll find. I'd probably put it at a solid 80 right now myself.
