Forums - Sony Discussion - PlayStation Now support being pulled from PS3; Vita; Bravia/Samsung TVs; Blu-Ray players

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/02/15/playstation-now-service-update/

We’d like to share an important update on compatible devices for PlayStation Now.

On August 15, 2017, we will be discontinuing the service on the following devices:

  • PlayStation 3
  • PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV
  • All 2013, 2014, 2015 Sony Bravia TV models
  • All Sony Blu-ray player models
  • All Samsung TV models

Additionally, 2016 models of Sony Bravia TVs will be discontinued on April 1, 2017.

After thoughtful consideration, we decided to shift our focus and resources to PS4 and Windows PC to further develop and improve the user experience on these two devices. This move puts us in the best position to grow the service even further. If you use any of the above devices, we want to give our heartfelt thanks for your support, and we hope you’ll continue with us. Remember that all of your PS Now cloud game saves can easily be accessed on both PS4 and Windows PC.

If you do not wish to continue your subscription, please remember to disable auto-renewal in your account settings so that your subscription ends by April 1, 2017 on 2016 Sony Bravia TVs, and August 15, 2017 on all other devices. For 3 months subscribers, depending on when you joined the service, your subscription may auto-renew a month or two before the service discontinuation date if you do not turn it off.

That's utter bullcrap. Looks bad for the service.

Lol wtf...

I can understand Samsung TVs but Sony stuff? Specially ps3/vita? Da faq???

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Sucks for PS3 and Vita users.

Hopefully they improve the service soon, cause I've heard mixed things about it.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Will this be the beginning of the end of Playstation Now?

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

It's probably because nobody uses PS Now on those devices and the cost to support it doesn't justify the little amount of money it brings in. I thought they were onto a winner by supporting smart TVs but it looks like nobody cares.
It's certainly a step back for the service and it looks like PS Now is struggling to capture the casual gamer market that Sony were aiming for.
In the end you're better off sticking where your bread is buttered.

SONY rarely talks about PS Now, and if they do, they don't give out numbers. It's safe to assume that the service hasn't caught on. I do believe in a distant future in which streaming games become mainstream though.

Gladly for Sony it's even hard to find the actual bread inside so much butter with the PS4, but just taking away on the service will only be bad for it.
Tell us how is that going to benefit the service in any way, at least.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say BratLoD!

It will be interesting to see where this goes. I wouldn't be shocked if it was struggling in its current form. $20 a month for 10 year old games is just not appealing.

I hope they are going to dump the Cell based servers, and start to make the shift to AMD based servers. They can focus on enhance porting PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, and PS Vita games to the service, while also supporting PS4 games, maybe even day and date with new releases.

If they can offer a wider range of games, and start including day and date new arrivals, then I can see the service getting much more fan fair. Once they have a well rounded service, that feels freash, and gets new content continuously, then they can re-launch on Android, iOS, and other Smart Devices.

That is UTTER and TOTAL BULLSHIT! I have a feeling Sony knew they didn't want to put it on a bunch of platforms a long time ago, and trying to use it as a marketing tool for PS4. I guess everyone else were beta testers. Boooo BOOOOOOOO!
