Let it be knows I play COD (casually) not hardcore. Only when my mate visits my house.

Fifa I hate, i am a PES man however.

Are you an older gamer? It seems like a generational thing because back in the 80's and 90's, alot of people who played games like 007 also played Madden etc. Sports games were in most people's library back then, sitting along side Sonic, Metal Gear and Metroid. It really wasn't until the start of the 7th generation where we saw this emerging divide where people were either sports gamers or non-sports gamers. It's odd to me because I have always liked every type of game.

Because a lot of people here were raised with Nintendo so they tend to have a skewed vision of gaming today.

33 so yes older. i have always loved sport games and fps.

what got me into fps was duke, doom and quake, but what got me totally hooked was starseige tribes.  Tribes (with the community mods) is basically to me like the predecessor to Halo. hats why when i saw Halo i never really felt the need to play it as much as other people did. Then it was quake 3 and UT.

When I got older and time got limited, i played less FPS and focus more on sports games and other genres. I still like FPS, but with liited time its more fun sitting and talking to a friends and playing it in the same room (kind of like the old N64 007 days). This way we all are equally distracted and jsut having a bit of fun without it being too hardcore when you had time to perfect your craft.

I dont think its that different at least in terms of the big 3. Nintendo still has a decent following, this site is one of the more pro Nintendo sites ive been on. Even when Sony was at its worse it still had its fan here. Now Xbox, the reality is its really not that popular, especially on a WW scale it doesnt touch Ninty or PS

Edit: Hell even at Xbox's most popular they werent that much fans here, even less so now

Peoples love for games here is so different from what people actually buy. Why is this?

Just about everyone here does not like call of duty, fifa, madden, etc but these are the most popular franchises.

If i took a poll on here id say 45% are sony fans, 35% are Nintendo fans, 15% pc gamers, and 5% xbox gamers. When in reality its more like 50% sony, 30% microsoft, 10% pc, 10% nintendo.

So there are 3x as much (active?) Xbox gamers than PC gamers "in reality"?

Wow, didn't know that there are more than 600 million Xbox gamers worldwide. You live and learn.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

I feel like those "casual" gamers don't get enough credit in these kind of "hardcore" gaming communities. Even people who play only Fifa can be incredibliy passionate about it. There is an entire meta game aspect to the games, and channels and sites entirely dedicated to in depth strategies. There are many forums just dedicated to those games, where many such people are highly passionate about that one sports game. I know this because I have been a part of that in the past. Again while that might not be the majority of those who play said game, there are so many communities and different levels of involvement, that it is nearly impossible to see the entire picture.

It is easy to say: "Yes, we are the ones passionate about gaming!", without even seeing the whole picture, because it makes us feel special. I also like to think I am somehow superior as a "hardcore gamer" to others, simply because I try to see all viewpoints, and try to repect and love all the games regardless of if they are considered casual or hardcore. However, I also realize that my thinking is restricted to my own viewpoint, and thus I am going to be bias no matter what, and in the end I'll just tell myself whatever makes me feel better in an attempt to satisfy my ego. Alas, that is the human nature I fear.

That's kind of backwards logic. People can be passionate about FIFA, but the general FIFA audience isn't. People can be passionate about COD, but the general COD audience isn't. FIFA sell mainly to sports fans, just like Gran Turismo sold mainly to teenagers that wanted to drive/tune a cool car.

Being passionate and being a hardcore gamer are two different things. I consider myself being passionate about gaming, but really can't consider myself a hardcore gamer, as the hardcore gamer isn't that passionate about gaming, but about the hype that precedes the game release.

Back in the day the licensed games were considered crap, which made the Rare Goldeneye more of an oddball. Anyway, the market have changed a lot from 80's and 90's, as back then your games library may have had as many genres as you had games, whereas today it's not uncommon that people have games only in one or two genres. Back then you might have bought one FIFA for your system, while today people are buying every yearly edition, and the same thing with shooters, where you had one or two of them on your system, while today you have people buying all the yearly sequels to a franchise (and not other games). And, this is the core audience of the games were talking about.
