Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Miyamoto Still Has Doubts About Virtual Reality

Good, at least he is not out of touch with everything yet.

I've never tried VR before, so I can't say how good it is, but considering how he also doubted that Bond being able to kill people in Goldeneye was a good thing, I don't take what he says as gospel.

Long live the proletariat! / Vive le prolétariat ! / ¡Viva el proletariado! / 无产阶级万岁! / プロレタリアート万歳!

Kinda par for the course.

Miyamoto doesn't like CDs, Miyamoto doesn't like online, etc. etc. Whatever new trend there is in gaming that isn't from Nintendo he doesn't like.

Like I said before Nintendo wouldn't like VR either because it's not kid friendly. Having little 8-year-old Timmy puke on the carpet because he played Virtual Mario too long is not going to sit well with mommy, and Nintendo desperately needs to be mom-approved.

Not sure if you're kidding on the second line since I never heard HIM say anything about CDs and online back then. Let's not try to point everything that went wrong towards him. He's not perfect (no one is), I get it. That's just his opinion at the moment. The tweet of him playing VR at least shows he's at least interested in where the tech will go in providing more gameplay opportunities. He personally just isn't in the band wagon yet. Games like RE7 show the potential of long games being played in VR, but are few and far between at the moment.

RE7 in VR is more 'revolutionary' than anything else this gen I would say and that includes the Switch which looks fun don't get me wrong, but doesn't really have any new gameplay ideas per se, it's just an amalgam of past Nintendo systems squished into one device.

If I had to show someone who's not that versed on the advances of video games what's "new" with modern gaming, I would show them VR, no question. The other stuff they've all seen/experienced before.

Good. Keep those doubts and just ignore this passing phase of pointlessness.

Don't forget user generated content...

OT: Well, VR is too soon, and sales figures reflect that notion as well, but it will probably become huge. I find it a little funny that a man that has been allergic to online initiatives and has had such a hard-on for a gimmick that has more or less died three times in games and cinema (3D) says all this though. He's still grossly out of touch.

End of 2016 hardware sales:

Wii U: 15 million. PS4: 54 million. One: 30 million. 3DS: 64.8 million. PSVita: 15.2 million.

I still have my doubts as well so I agree with him :p

As do I. VR just isn't ready to rock the world yet. I don't need VR to have fun either. It's cool, I've played my fair share of it, and it's not something I could do throughout the year.

i still need a source on the bolded. Sure you could point out Star Fox Zero but he did think online could work for Luigi's Mansion 2.
