Is this the first time Nintendo is doing a season pass sort of thing? I don't remember if they've ever done that before.

Hyrule Warriors kinda did it already.

Hard mode and a "new map feature" behind a paywall... Isn't that a new low?

Fire Emblem Awakening's DLCs were already part of the worst I've ever seen, it's curious to see something even worse.

But hey, people are going to buy it and thank them for that great idea, so why wouldn't they do it?

I am interested in that second pack that includes a new story, but unfortunately it seems you can't buy it individually, so if I decide to buy it, I will end up purchasing the brilliant ideas you mentioned as well It sucks, hard.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I think I'll take a wait and see approach. I mean, hard mode and that Switch t-shirt is questionable imo, but the rest of the content might be worth that price.

Didn't they do something like that for Pikmin 3 too?  Or was that just DLC packs?

Nintendo has done DLC many times in the past; Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Brothers, With Amiibo, etc. What was so ok with them but not ok with this?

It's simple, you said it yourself. Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. Those games are all about offering a multiplayer experience with as much content and variety as possible. They are competitive games that are endlessly replayable. It makes sense for those to have DLC for extra stuff.

Amiibo, on the other hand, was never ok. It has been bullshit since forever, and Breath of the Wild is actually one of very few games that has added nice amiibo functionality that is not taking away content from the game itself.

But besides the fact that Zelda should never have DLC, it's the fact that they're announcing it before the game itself even releases, and is honestly looking very expensive considering there's only a little bit of interesting content and it's only coming by the end of the year (the other nice things like Cave of Trials and Hard Mode should just be in the game itself, or at least added as a free update).

Smash Bros. announced DLC prior to release and Hyrule Warriors announced preorder bonuses prior to release.

And we also got games like FFXV that also mentioned a season pass (not sure about prior to release though).

We'll see how this all goes out. I mean they recently showed that BoTW has gone gold so they probably decided on DLC a little later on but haven't developed it yet.

While I'm sure some are upset hard mode is not coming till later, this games seems to not be a cake walk in it's standard form anyway. You're already seeing Link getting almost insta-killed by Guardians

The Switch T-shirt is a silly bonus. When you paid for both of the Mario Kart DLC packs in advance, you got eight additional colors for Yoshi or Shy Guy (don't remember which one), but nobody thought of that as the thing they paid for.

Yep, it's silly, so I don't really care a lot about that. It just strikes me as unnecessary and not-fitting on the Zelda world. Tbh, the two features which bother me the most, are not deal-breaking. I don't think I'll ever use them. I'm kind of interested on what that map feature is to be sold separately. We don't really know a lot about the game, so I'll wait to give a final opinion about what's included. I was also skeptical about HW and MK8 DLCs and those were pretty good deals in the end.

Yeah...

The next Zelda game will even cost $100, because it will be sold with another random bombing game like Metroid Prime Federation Force 2, and you won't be able to buy Zelda individually. I'm sure they have a lot of other great ideas like that!

Now that's pure science fiction

You don't have to try so hard.
