Forums - Sony Discussion - Horizon: Zero Dawn Review Thread - MC: 89 / GR: 88.82%

I love this game to.me it's probably the best game that has release yet on the PS4. The journey, the world and the gameplay are amazing. I love how difficult it is on very hard and you need to plan every fight you are getting into. The first fight against a bigger machine felt almost like a bossfight and was really difficult. I don't get how anyone thinks this game is sub 85 if I am honest. It has almost no bugs a stable frame rate and intresting well executed combat unlike many other open world games. I feel critics are especially harsh on this game because it's a new IP. Uncharted 4, Bloodborne and the Witcher had faults reviewers did not even care to mention.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Horizon is what Witcher 2 and Uncharted 1 are to those franchises.

If they continue with the great writing, graphics and gameplay and built on the foundations, Horizon 2 is gonna be recognized as one of the greats of all time. Just take your sweet time with it, dont wanna see the sequel in 2 years time, come back on PS5 and blow us away.

Not going into a discussion but just wanting to say any score below a 8 is freaking bullshit and clickbaits.

Game is fantastic looks amazing, plays fluid, huge amount of stuff to do, solid framerate (kuch kucj zelda) likeable characters, fantastic music and a absolutely phenomenal world(soo much details so much to see)

Its by far the best open world game ever after witcher 3.

Totally agree that the quality bar on this game is high, any scores that are 6 should be considered a rubbish review. I can understand some sites giving it a 7 ish, but its totally an 8 or above game.

Eurogamer didnt give it a recommended, again another dodgy review.

If you read their comments below too you will see them defending themselves by what I find to be legit defenses.

1. They mention that they do mention they only played so much and didn't finish. Many would leave that out. They are honest.

2. They say if they don't like a game and are not having fun, why should they force themselves to play it. They played 18 hours and that to me is long enough play time for a game to fairly judge it. If you say the first 20 hours suck and the next 20 hours are amazing, well that is the games fault. They need to make a game engaging the whole time.

I have no issue if he didn't finish it. My main concerns is his review. He complains of the sinple thing and trying to compare the game to the other games. I hate this statetment.
The sad fact for Horizon, and every other open-world game like it, is that we now live in a post-Witcher 3 world. CD Projekt Red has raised the bar for this genre in nearly every conceivable way, and it is absolutely not enough to simply be another open-world game. The sidequests have to be interesting, the writing has to be engaging, the characters have to be memorable – just putting a good premise and great graphics on top of boilerplate content isn’t enough. At least, it’s not enough for this reviewer.

He then also compare it with Far Cry.

Don't ever compare if you want to be objective with your review. Not every game will be like the this game or that game and you should review the game on what it is and not why didn't this game be like this game  or be like that game.

Also on his review. He complains that he is always beng swarm by enemies and cannot came up with a strategy and the only options is to run and dodge. If you are eing swarm by enemies it is obvious to run and don't engage.
Clearly he is not utizing the tools he have and not coming up with startegy before he engage.

There's someone commented and asked if he is utilizing the stealth and traps correctly. He then respsonded with an arrogant statement. When that person responded.
He raised a valid point. For me he is ust compllaining the game is hard for him and exlporing the world is not worth it because he will be again gangbang by enemies.

Also, complain that why not have Aloy equip all the weapons or items that he has so he shouldnt be hassle of changing it everytime.

It juust sickens me when they are revieiwing they always compare it to other games and cannot review it on what it is. Take a look at Bloodborne's review. The main point of his review why Bloodborne is different from Dark soul.

Bottomline. When they start mentioning other games on their review and compare it. It is  not a obective review already. That wil cloud their judgement because it is playing differently.

And that is a bad thing? When I was playing Witcher 3, beyond being amazed and loving the game, the thing I was most pumped about was what it showed other developers. I hoped it would be a Halo moment, where it revolutionizes how RPG's are made and those things are not the things that set great games apart from mediocre ones, but become the standard.

And why should a game not be compared to others in the genre, or in teh series, ect. I am comparing BotW with games while I play.

So far it is missing some of teh things Witcher 3 had, such as amazingly in depth side quests. But BotW has also brought some new things to the open world genre that I hope also become standard.

From what I've seen of Horizon, there is nothing it does beyond graphics that is at the top of its genre. You can point to another game and say it did this or that better.

Level 13 now and just felt like a fucking God on this game, I came across 3 Fire bellowbacks for the first time (theyre level 18 each). I thought Fuk it im going to try take these down, had the most baddass battle with all three of them dodging & shooting fire tripcasters and firing freeze bombs with catapult, took down 1 and then somehow managed to tie the other two down with the ropecaster. i just stood there watching them struggling tied down, that's when i realized just how good the game is. Don't get me wrong i had it rated around 90 as it was anyway but i had so much fun battling those 3 bellowbacks with the variety of weapons and ways to take them down that its bumped it up to 95 for me. The combat is so good when you get into fights with the bigger machines.

Man this game is awesome and gorgeous.

Just goes to show reviewers are full of shit, when this game sits at 88.Zelda gets full scores yet us plagued with frame rate issues, same goes for blood borne and The Witcher 3 and all scored above 90.This game is excellent all round not to mention it's their first try.

Stop being a fanboy. All three of them are amazing games. Ive put 132 hours in the Witcher (haven't finished), played 15 hours of HZD with my friend, and tried out BOTW for a few hours.

There's no point in constantly whining. If reviewers are so useless, then why complain over a great game getting 90's across the board?

Unlock the Shield Weaver outfit and you really will feel like a God. It makes you invincible as long the suit has a charge.

21 seconds on the "Log pile hunting challenge" beat that.
