Forums - Sony Discussion - Horizon: Zero Dawn Review Thread - MC: 89 / GR: 88.82%

So, looks like it will end up with a 88MC, maybe 87 if some negative reviews come in. Hopefully it will get 89 tho

Wait, what? I never said that the low reviews are the only ones that matter. I just think it's funny how people always scream "clickbait" whenever they see an outlier review for an exclusive. Sometimes it's clickbait, but alot of times it's not, people just scream "clickbait" without reading the review most of the time. Having read the low reviews for Horizon myself, I think they have may have some legit criticism about the writing and repetitiveness of the side content, just like I think many of the higher reviews have some legit praise about the graphics, originality, and combat of Horizon. Horizon is a game I will be playing myself btw, I was interested in it beforehand and the scores are good enough for me to give it a try.

Fair enough......

But what would you now say of all the numerous reviews that praised horizon for its story, how it was told, making teh side quests interesting and how bold and shocking the story was at the end (whatsver that is). A LOT of the reviewers said something similar about the games story.

Thats what makes these outlier reviews suspicious. Cause what they are saying mostly doesnt fit with the general consensus of the game. If anything it contradicts it.

Notice I said nothing about them complaining about the human AI.... thats ageneral criticism. But when a reviewer says things like bad, uninteresting story when every one else says different, says things like bad animation during NPC cutscens when everyone else says (and we can see) that its at least on par with the best RPGs have had to offer so far, when reviewers score a game like this that every single other person is praisiong LOWER than he scored the order 1886...... then yh.... I'm not buying that.

Edit: Also, I figured I'd comment on what you said about the animations, there was some footage released a few weeks ago that had really bad lip synching for a sidequest character, so I feel like the criticism about the animations may be legit, assuming that didn't get patched before release.

That footage was supposed to be of a crazy dude. When it first started making the rounds theer was no audio so there was no contect. People even thought he was doing some weird dance. And that is one single case.

There are tons of footage showing the animation of nps during quest conversations and what not and they speak for themselves. I just feel its so easy to see how god all that stuff is as opposed to focus on  single bad showing. Not even bad.... misunderstood.

Honestly, all things considered this was a resounding success. Back in the day there were less focus and excitement around gaming and thus less publications affecting Metacritic's aggregative score. Some people will not like this game. Some will. Most seem to say nothing but amazing things about it. I for one am excited.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

No offense, but I find it ridiculous how ONE reviewer felt like it was a 50 when almost everyone said it was at least an 80+ game. Reminds me of the dude who rated uncharted a 4.5/10

Really feels like a way to make people click on their website. I'm not even a Sony fan boy and feel like they're intentionally rating the game this low.

It's not their fault that their score translates into something shitty on Metacritic. That's always been a problem with MC, not every websites review scale translates well into a universal 100 point scale. Plus it's not as if this website has a history of click bait scores. It's not like a Quarter to Three situation here.

Anyways I am excited to see Sterling scored it a 9.5 as I trust his reviews more than pretty much anyone else. Willl read it sometime this week.

Wow HZD now at #1 on Amazon best sellers list--8 days from release. It was at #3 until today, and idt it's a coincidence that it's the day the reviews released. The CE is down to #15 as well. Man, this game is going to sell really well.

Does anyone remember how many days prior to release U4 hit #1 on Amazon? I remember I was impressed with it as well, but idt it was 8 days prior to release.

As a side note, Nier is at #23. I think this is pretty impressive as well, since it's almost 2wks from release, and it's not a AAA release.

Great score, but I expected more (my prediction was 91).

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

A great score for the first game in Guerrilla's new franchise! Looking forward to getting this.

Honestly this is a great score. From a hit and miss developer so much could have gone wrong. It sounds like they have a pretty excellent sand-box game on their hands.

I know there are complaints about the story, but you know, there are other great narrative-driven games to play if thats your thing.
