Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I'm sick of Nintendo's 720p games... We should have minimum 900p atleast for Switch

This isn't an issue for me. On the portable side, 720p AAA gaming is totally tits. Lots of the games look great. If I do buy a Switch, and it's not a certainty, it would be used primarily as a handheld. I'm just bummed about other aspects of it. I love EDF, and I heard a rumor, total rumor, that EDF is coming to it. That would be awesome. But. I'm not using my phone to talk to people on my console. Period. Nintendo is telling me to use my thumbs as an intercourse solution when I have a perfectly good dick. No! Just no! It's a solution to a problem that shouldn't exist.

I think Nintendo makes amazing games with great graphics, but my problem has always been their resolution.

We know Nintendo refuses to release updated hardware and gives us consoles with gimmicks, not a bad thing. I don't look at Switch to be that at all. It's a hybrid. What annoys me is resolution. Wii U should've gave us more than 720p. 720p has been here since 2005. I know Wind Waker, Sm4sh had 1080p and maybe a few more titles and that's all.

When I play my Wii U for Splatoon, or Fast Racing Neo (I let MK8 rest for Deluxe, reason on last thread), it looks blurry. It's distracting. I own a 4K tv and playing 720p games on it looks bad on it. After awhile I'll get used to it, but this problem shouldn't be on Switch. This problem shouldn't be here for the next 5 years. While the PS4 Pro and Scorpio is enjoying 4K, I'll be here still on 720p.

1080p games looks great while upscaled to 4K in my opinion. 720p, not so much. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Fast Racing RMX are the only games I can think of that are confirmed 1080p. Breath of the Wild is 900p(that's fine), Super Mario Odyssey gameplay from Trailer is confirmed 720p, Splatoon 2 demo is 720p and we don't know what resolution ARMS is....... I'll still buy these awesome games but it's dissapointing that barely of them runs 1080p.

Yea I am aware that it's a hybrid and it's a kick-ass portable console, but I'm not sure if I'll be using handheld mode that often. I'm perfectly fine with the Switch screen being 720p too. But I just want 1080p Nintendo games(or atleast 900p) on my beautiful 4K screen....

Your problem is you're not playing the games as Nintendo intended them. When using a Nintendo home console you need to be as far away from the TV so that it seems you're looking at a tiny handheld screen. That will definitely solve your blur problem.

Don't complain about Nintendo when you're not even using their devices properly.

I'd second this. In the old N64 days I could only play the console by breaking into a vacant house across the street and looking out from one of the bedrooms into the living room window. It could have been 4k for all I knew. It made the required pinpoint jumping of Turok dinosaur hunter all the more difficult especially as when cars went over my home made joystick cable extension it would cut out on the d-pad connection plus the neighbours banging on the front door and peering into the living room window wondering why the tv volume was so excessive often blocked my vision making the games doubly difficult. Luckily after a while they would spot me across the road and move to that front door restoring my view of the tv screen.

Let me guess, an LG 29" FreeSync monitor? LG 29UM68?

Close enough. 29UM58 :D

Ha! Close I own the 29UM68, but I guess only the stand and chasis are different.

BTW. I'm still salivating over the LG 38UC99... But I think I'll go for one so big when they offer ultrawide 4k resolution and maaaybe even 144Hz on top of that.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

I'd much rather have 60 fps in almost any game over higher than 720p graphics. At the distance I play (from tv) and with my eyes greater than 720p isn't something to give much care for.

Fps makes a big difference. Honestly, almost all games on all consoles should favour fps over a greater than 720p res.

To get on topic.

Am I just too dumb to find one, or is there not a single topic about the recent leak from the Foxconn worker who previously leaked colours for Joy Cons, battery life of Switch, etc., that says Nintendo is preparing an SCD for Switch based on the GTX 1060? That would be enough to play Nintendo games in 4K and I'd be extatic if they released it during this year's E3. There wouldn't be a single reason not to port games to Switch anymore and it would make Switch a no-brainer go-to console for me.

I noticed that too when I switched to a 4k TV. Black Ops 2 Wii U on a 4k TV hurt my soul. Even my PC games at 1080p didn't look so hot. My 970 can't really handle most of the 4k games so I decided to go back to my 1080p tv. I'm not ready for 4k yet.

Bruh ain't that the truth. I can't imagine working on a normal 16:9 display now (Had a 8:5 display before this one). I'm not in a rush to upgrade, I've had my old display for 8 years :S

I wish that all games supported true 2560x1080 though.

All these "4K screens make my games look like arse" comments are making me glad my TV is 1080p. :P

You're in luck then; Nintendo games mostly run at a rock solid 60fps.

I really don't see what exactly you proved me with this picture!? Do we have some game on PS3 that runs on 1080p but actually it's downsampled to 720p, or like we have on Pro running at 4k actually downsampled to 1080p for 1080p users!? Of Course not.

I showed the difference upscaling brings.
We are also not talking about downsampling.

You know Grand Torusimo 4 on the Playstation 2? That 1080i mode? That is also upscaling. People saw benefits.

Don't ignore the evidence.

Plus the Switch already has an upscaler built in.

Again you missing a point, for that 4k interface they used extra Pro power and capabilities, that couldn't be done with base PS4.

No they don't.

I don't think you understand how much processing a UI takes. Hint: It's not an issue for modern systems. It's a 2D overlay.

--::{PC Gaming Master Race}::--

What ive seen looks fine to me, and more importantly , looks like it will be fun to play.

If you care so much about what it looks like, then don't buy it, spend a bunch on a great PC and melt your eyes with framerates and 4k
