Forums - Sales Discussion - January 2017 NPD Thread! PS4 #1

Nope, if anyone is cherry picking it is you. The basis of your post I quoted is that PS4 is selling while lacking major hits, which is simply not true as almost every game I listed is a mulitmillion seller.

Being a new IP is not a valid argument as Destiny, Watch Dogs & The Division have each sold over 4 million on PS4 and Bloodborne, Overwatch, Dying Light have each sold over 2 million on PS4. To pretend those arent system movers is cherrypicking.

You also said it has one or two stellar older IP, again that is false. Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Assassin's Creed, Madden, FIFA, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Mortal Kombat, Final Fantasy, Need for Speed, Street Fighter, Fallout, Battlefield, Far Cry, Tomb Raider, Batman Arkham were some of the biggest games of last generation.

You also said none of Sony's first party games have made an appearance, again a false statement. Uncharted, Last of Us, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, InFamous are some of Sony's biggest 1st party IP and are on PS4 while Bloodborne & Bloodborne are big new 1st party IP.

That's why I'm saying your post is nonsense, PS4 has a ton of mulitmillion selling franchises. Obviously it still has some major system movers yet to release like the ones you previously listed but to pretend PS4 is lacking in the system movers department is nonsense.

Relax.....

The basis of my post isn't to say the PS4 isselling without major hits.

Its to say that there are still some really big hits left to come. And as such may not have peaked just yet.

And that statement holds through with sony first party and tird party.

Basically, I'm saying this gen still has not yet got a GT, GoW, GTA6, RDR2. All games that (maybe with exception to GoW) have the potential of pushing a lot of hardware as they have always been knwn to do in the past.

"All sony's first party and the major third party console movers (outside call of duty) has not made an appearance yet this gen."

That cannot be interpreted any other way than PS4 lacks major hits/system sellers.

Nope. That's your interpretation and nothing more. You can keep repeating it but it doesn't make it a fact somehow.

He is right. Not all of them have been released and could push hardware to the point that ps4 reaches its peak this year. Don't think it's likely, but his point still stands.

How can it be interpreted any other way?

His words aren't "there are still major first/third party games coming" he literally says right there in the post that you quoted that Call of Duty is the only major console mover.

Just relax man.... after whatever misunderstanding my initial post led to I have repeatedly emphasized exactly what I was trying to say or at least the context with which I was referring to. Yet you are still going on as If I havn't made myself Clear(er). I have veen given the list of games in particular I am referring to multiple times. And for the sake of clarity I weill do it again.

Sony's biggest first party title is Gran Turismo. It has not made an appearance this gen.

The biggest Third party title on the planate as far as moving software and hardware (outside of COD) is GTA. And by that I mean GTA6 not GTA5 that was a remaster. That too has not made an appearance yet.

So the point I was making is that there are still some titles that have the potential to move consoles this gen that are yet to make a debut. And that so far the PS4 has coasted on the wings of mostly new IPs (destiny is a new IP most attributable to moving new units) with a mixture of albeit lots of other great games but games tht individually won't be referred to as hardware movers.

Outside COD, the single stand out games that are historically known to move hardware have not yet made their official next gen showing.

God of War is a huge system seller for PlayStation though I think the upcoming one will sell more to Naughty Dog and Crystal Dynamics fans rather than the God of War fans. The series so far was a huge system seller in India, USA and Brazil.

I think that God of War 3 and GTA V being on PS4 will cause less sales increase especially GTA V.

There is also Devil May Cry, Tekken and Soul Calibur that can sell PS4.

Shenmue 3

Won't  even begin  what a limited  edition  final fantasy  7 remake ps4 @250 could do.

Lol... obviously its not coming this year. Honestly I'm not even ure if its coming this generation. I was just point out that this year we are gonna have a much better software lineup than last year though.

Of course it's coming this generation.  You think they'll miss out on the massive install base that will exist in the last year of this gen?  not only that but releasing it a year later on next gen will ensure double dippers.  And another year later on pc for triple dippers.

It worked perfectly with gta V so why wouldn't they do it again? This gen won't end until after rockstar release gta vi.  The console manufacturers would be stupid too.

Hell with the way things worked for GTA V I wouldn't be surprised to see that be the staple for all gens going forward.  GTA # released on last legs years of current gen, remastered and re-released early in the next gen, rinse repeat.

Yh, but why I excempted GoW is because the kinda people that may have bought that game already most likely bought a PS4 for Bloodborne, Dark souls...etc. So while it will no doubt sell a lo, I don't see it moving a lot of hardware. I could be wrong though.

Now with GTA6, why I think that will boost hardware sales is because there are a lot of poeple that will not only buy a game like that, but only buy it when they can get the console for as low a price as possible. But i fear that may be coming too late into this generation.
