First, Charter schools are PUBLIC SCHOOLS. They are publically funded, and they are open enrollment for anyone. They cannot discriminate, and they cannot teach religion (separtion of church and state).

Charter schools for the win! Will be the end of the teachers union and all their bureaucracy and waste, and inability to advance american education. Education is not a one size fits all, especially across the nation. Education choices should be left up to cites, counties, and states. The federal government has no need being involved.

Charter schools may be the best thing for inner city youth at risk. They have more flexibility, more choices and more options to get their students educated and under control. Unlike public schools that tie the hands of teachers. With out the ability to choose what school to go to the inner city youth are stuck in schools that arent up to far. They dont have the money for private school, and the government wont let them go to other public schools. Charter schools are a good balance of public vs private. Public funding which the parent can choose to best suit their child. How great is that?

She seems to be very competent and the right person to improve the education system for everyone. Firing bad teachers is one of the best ideas ever. She also plans to improve international PISA scores and the chances of low-income families as she specialised in working with low income children. The mainstream media coverage can be considered as fake news after watching her earlier speeches.

Couldn't agree more. So much potential is wasted due to the one size fits all, we know best mantra of public education. Heaven forbid parents and locals get a say. its all about what the feds feel is best.

Not sure if this post if pro or anti Betsy DeVos. But Charter schools are what allow low income families that choice to go to a better school. They are publicaly funded so parents dont have to pay, but they aren't stuck under the weight and hammer of the teachers union. Families can also choose to remove their students and place them back in public education if they don't like the school. It gives parents of all incomes a choice, it fosters compition to keep students at your school for funding, which in turn will create better schools as schools that fail students will loose funding and schools that excel students will get more. Seems like win, win, win for students and parents, for education, and for tax payers.
