Wouldn't human greed actually be a good argument FOR communism? If people are always greedy and will abuse power, then it makes sense to have a system where nobody has control over another, instead of one where a few people rule and rig the system in their favour.

Except communism has always resulted in a few people ruling and rigging the system in their favor. Just like every other system, only they tend to kill a lot more people to maintain it.

Both are just as bad

Fascism gave us the 3rd Reich, Hitler, Mussolini and one of the worst atrocity's in human history while Communism gave us Stalin, another mass slaughter, partly caused the cold war and Chernobyl.

You can't even compare the two. If you'd say Stalinism vs. Fascism, I'd understand. But this is just illogical.

It wasn't really meant to be logical, I just wanted to see what VGChartz generally thought without trying to influence their thoughts.

Which makes the result even more baffling. Communism in itself is not bad at all. Read some Marx and Engels, people. Not that it'll ever work, but it's a neat idea.

Communism is a classless, stateless society. The Soviet Union was neither the former nor the latter. Yes, the Soviet Union was brutal, but I don't like the Soviet Union, in fact there are many communists that don't (specifically anarchists). Also, you seem to give too much credit to the capitalist systems, they have killed numerous people as well in order to maintain power.

It's kinda like being a crack cocaine addict (fascism) versus an alcoholic (communist).

Neither is good, but Crack cocaine will likely kill you faster.

Look at all fascist societies, most do not last past 10 years even. If you want to drive your society straight into the toilet as quickly as possibly, fascism takes the cake. It basically is an idelogy based around hyper stupidity and paranoia taking over reason/rationality/compassion. It doesn't take long for it to fall apart on itself.

Soviet Union had it`s fair share of problems like any country in the world, but all the super state they built was just necessary. It was a socialist country in a capitalist world, it`s just required national security to be a top priority.

I`d love to see a situation where most of the world communist but a few countries are capitalists somehow.

Maybe, but after they became a superpower I'm not sure if that argument was still valid. I'm against authoritarianism, whether it's in the name of capitalism or socialism.

Fascism is inherently an evil philosophy that is necessarily authoritarian and hyper-nationalist/jingoist, usually with racist and irredentist tendencies. The Holocaust and other crimes against humanity are a necessary consequence of fascism once it gains hold of the reigns of power. Every bad thing that comes to mind when one thinks of fascism is an explicit goal of the ideology. Evil is built into fascism by design.

Communism is inherently neutral from a moral standpoint, being at its core an economic system, but it doesn't work in practice and is easily warped and abused by authoritarians. I don't think Marx had Joe Stalin, Mao Zedong, Fidel Castro, Pol Pot, Ho Chi Minh, and the Kim dynasty in mind when he wrote Das Kapital. He was probably thinking of something closer to a country full of worker-owned factories and co-ops than the deliberately murder of millions of people by a totalitarian government.

TL;DR, communism is a bad idea, but fascism is an evil idea.

I guess that is an important distinction to make: fascism was created by political leaders, while communism was more of a prediction of the future. I don't think Marx anticipated the creation of the welfare state, though.

The creation of the welfare state was necessary for capitalism to survive. The conditions under capitalism caused people to swarev to socialism, resistance and supression of those ideas created the nationalist alternative, fascism. To stop the far right from growing again, the welfare state was necessary. Capitalism couldn't really work after WWII anymore without a bit of socialism mixed in.

Politicians seem to forget the importance of the welfare state these days, que the rise of the new far right.

fascism is much much worse.
