Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Miyamoto Says Nintendo’s Internal Studios Have ‘Mastered’ Unreal Engine

“That ease of software development has also been felt by Nintendoʼs internal developers,” Miyamoto told investors during a question-and-answer session in Kyoto. “Also, even though game software developers in the U.S. and E.U. are often said to have superior skills to their Japanese counterparts when it comes to software development techniques, Nintendoʼs software developers have mastered state-of-the-art technologies such as Unreal engine, and their skills can now be compared with those of Western developers. Our developers are more excited than ever to create software.”

I guess it's time for Metroid Prime 4 with UE4 to happen, eh Shiggy?

Yeah it seems strange to me, maybe I'm just uneducated but I don't really remember Nintendo using 'third-party' engines for projects in the past.

They say that, but we all know the games we`ll get wont be very deep.

Maybe this is Nintendo's way of getting round the troubles they've had with HD Game Development and droughts. Using engines such as Unreal instead of their own custom engines.

So Nintendo games will soon feel like every other Unreal, Unity, etc. game. Will people like it? Yes. Will I like it? No. Gimme some games built on their very own engine. Otherwise you just change the coat.

for the most part first party games usually dont use third party engines for their games. and i would have figured nintendo would develop their own tech and distribute accross multiple teams and studios.

Which Unreal Engine?
