Kinda just shows how important execution is as Switch is basically the Wii U concept done better.
One wonders how much better the GameCube could have done if Nintendo hadn't made so many stupid mistakes with it (like making it look like a Fisher Price toy for one, just like the Wii U looks like "baby's first tablet").
As for the hype I notice little/zero buzz from my more casual friends (ones who were excited about Wii), I remember specifically around October 2006 a female friend of mine coming up to me and taking about this new thing called a "Wii" was coming and you can like play tennis and sports on it, and I remember saying "yeah it's Nintendo's new system" and she went "no, no this is called Wii, not Nintendo, it's totally a new thing", and I just kinda chuckled.
I've gotten some comments on Switch from more hardcore gaming friends of mine though, they know what it is.
