Forums - Sales Discussion - Nintendo shot themselves in the foot with the Switch!

Nintendo fan since the 80s. I rarely play online. I'm just not the online type of gamer. Whenever I choose to play online is for a half an hour at most.

Wow I'm exactly the same, have you stolen my identity :)

You shoot your credibility in the foot with this threads, I hope you make a thread about how wrong you were in the next months.

Funniest thing is that I can recall when sony's PSN service (while free) was considered a joke and wholly inferior to XBL.

It took sony charging for online to make people start saying it was good and all of a sudden MS were the ones adding features to XBL to bring it on par with the PSN.

Maybe there is something about justifying collecting people money for paid online that makes online services better......

Paid online isn't nearly as big a deal as some people try to make it. Especially in a world where more and more consumers are paying for streaming services like Netflix Hulu and Amazon Prime on top of their ISP's and wireless carrier's monthly fees.

Netflix for example is $10/month which is $120 a year, double what XBL and PSN go for, just to watch a rotating lineup of cable TV shows and movies with some exclusives sprinkled in. And if what we've been hearing out of Nintendo of Japan is true, the Switch's paid online will be roughly half the annual fee of the other two online services, or roughly 1/4 of what Netflix costs a year. You're telling me the vast majority of people who pick up a Switch won't be willing to pay that for online multiplayer and other content / features?

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Paid online is thé main flaw of the Switch

Maybe it's because I'm a Nintendo fanboy but I don't follow you on this. System appears to be hot right out of the gate and nothing you listed can't be amended in the future.

what about the people who plan to buy the console and not use the online features?

what about the fact that the Switch's online functions are now likely to only cost around $20 per year?

what about the fact that minimal issues have been reported with Nintendo's online services in the past and the paid service will allow for better, more stable servers than they have already?

and I'm going to laugh in your face over the "pokemon targets kids 8-12 years old thing". are you aware that pokemon has fans from literally every age demographic out there? like there is a huge competitive scene and everything with world championships, and online communities, and millions of active players. and are you aware that Pokemon Bank, the companion app to the most recent pokemon games, ALREADY is an additional paid online service that people willingly pay for?

my guess is you took about 2 seconds to evaluate Nintendo's new paid online service, and you probably heard about it a few minutes before making this thread. this isnt something new, people have known about their paid service for almost a month now. where were you then?

We can agree most people who bought an xbox one didn't buy a ps4 and most people who bought a ps4 didnt buy an xbox one. This is the case 99% of the time because no one wants to pay TWO online subscriptions.

This is most likely an incorrect assumption. Well, both of them, really. What if I told you a lot of people own consoles without paying for subscriptions?

I have both consoles and pay for xbox live and psn plus. I get the bonus games each month plus online of course. Fantastic value. While I don't play every game they give out I try out most and spend a good amount of time with quite a few. It helps that I own 360, ps3, vita, ps4 and xbox one so I'm getting a lot of bonus content.

You think people bought the Wii U for free online? ROFL.

Lol this!

Pocky Lover Boy!

The switch is even more poised to be a good "second console" if you're basing it's success on that, due to it's portability and due to having a zelda game off the bat.
