Forums - General Discussion - Neogaf OT Forum is a goddamn echochamber.

Overall i don't think that politics should mix with gaming or anything else, so when it does it creates a bad environment.

This forum generally has more right-wingers and centrists. The only leftists here that I can think of are WolfPackN64 and I.

Depends on what you qualify as leftist. If you have to believe in pure communism/socialism to be considered leftist then yeah, there aren't many. But by such definitions, 99% of everyone are either centrists or i-don't-give-a-shit-ers.

Well, I don't know how you can not be a socialist and still be a leftist. Unfortunately there are no mainstream leftists in the United States so most people view Sanders and far left when in reality he's a centrist with left leanings.

Dunno about that! Wanting taxes to pay for free college for everyone is pretty far-left in my opinion.

It's also a terrible idea. I grew up in a place and time where nearly everyone went to college. It doesn't just automatically benefit everyone. It just means that about half of the people do useless degrees for the sake of getting one, when they really weren't suited to academia.

The idea that free college for everyone would be good is based on a flawed reading of the statistics on income. Failing to take into account how much a college degree's benefit is just based on credentialism rather than actual education (a lot of it)

How is that far left? That's a capitalist concession to the working class, which is what centrism is. It's the maintainment of capitalism with concessions to workers and working families in order to prevent revolution. These policies came into place during the Great Depression in order to satisfy the workers who were getting really desperate and more extremist. Taxes wouldn't even need to exist in socialism as since the workers would control the means of production themselves there wouldn't need to be wealth redistribution as it would be an economy ran from the bottom-up.

I'm certain there are some more socialists around here :), if not, the social liberals will have to do ;)

Don't go to neogaf if you don't drink the kook-aid.

Higher education for the masses is always a good idea. If not for exposure to a wide plethora of ideas, then at least for job security. In a fast changing economy, whole sectors can can suddenly find themselves unemployed and having a degree can at least give some certainty.

Politic, SJW, and the mods are three topics that you shouldnt really care abt when visiting neogaf

It was like that before the election, too. Quite a few years before, actually. Then it spilled over to gaming side, and I left.

GamerGate was when the hivemind aspect of GAF really reared its ugly head. Heck, when I first heard about GamerGate, I didn't care and thought the controversy would just go away. And then, I began to notice how one-sided the conversation was on GAF, so I searched for opinions outside of the forum and its night and day.
