Forums - Gaming Discussion - Have your thoughts on Nintendo going mobile changed?

If anything they should have gone mobile a LONG time ago. Any opposition was mostly based in paranoia and fear

Interesting, I was thinking of doing a similar thread to this, but focusing on how Nintendo is doing in the mobile space in the eyes of users here. Initially, I was against it for similar reasons as you, but when other people made good points like raising brand awareness and attracting attention to them, via MyNintendo, it started to seem like a potentially good idea, and the games so far have been pretty good and interesting.

So so far, I think they're doing pretty well with it.

I was completely against the idea of Nintendo doing mobile games, because the usual proposals from investors as well as people on VGC were about putting Virtual Console games and sequels on smartphones. Both of these moves would hurt Nintendo's core business, hence why I was so against them.

When I learned about Nintendo making games for smartphones, it was right in the middle of the press conference for the announcement. I was disappointed at first, but that changed as soon as I read the English transcript of Nintendo's announcement. What Iwata said there made a lot of sense. It made so much sense that I was baffled that nobody came up with this idea before. Since that point I fully supported Nintendo's decision and I got no reason to be disappointed with it. By now Nintendo's strategy has proven to work as intended. Not only are Nintendo's smartphone games not harming their core business, they are actually boosting it.

This mirrors my thoughts.

Though, I also thought that they'd take notes on market response to certain mobile titles. Take, for instance, Miitomo (mobile) and what happened to that 3DS RPG Miitopia months afterward.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

:3

Yes, my mind has indeed changed. People including I were scared that some IP's will go fully mobile and wouldn't return to Nintendo consoles. But the way the games were implemented in a way that brought the IP to mobile without bringing the full core experience with it, but at the same time not feeling like cheap cash-ins. Played perfectly by Nintendo(except $10 for Mario run).

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

The mobile games are great. I was scared that they'd put too much effort, but they clearly thought it through. Every game currently made was perfectly suited for mobile devices. I'm telling you- Animal crossing has the potential to be HUGE if done correctly.

It feels like a lower quality version of Microsoft's PC+Xbox connection. By having mobile games, I can always still enjoy Nintendo games for brief moments whenever I'm bored.

My opinion is still the same. If Nintendo wants to make mobile games, that's fine for me. I don't play them, but Nintendo can make a lot of money out of them, which they can invest in more games. So as long as mobile games don't result less actual games, it's a good thing.

F2P Fire Emblem... No interest. I'm sure the Animal Crossing will be terrible if it is F2P. They should just release some of their eshop titles on mobile for quick cash grabs. Some of their eshop titles are far superior than most of the shitty games on mobile anyways. Don't really give a shit about any mobile game these days because I'd rather play with buttons.  I probably have about 10 dollars of games on a Google account that I will let it rot in hell.  Oh and for the love of god release another fucking Advance Wars...

How they done Super Mario Run and FE Heroes was what i expected before they released it. Quite far from what you expect on their real games, but enough to get a taste of what the franchise is. And this is a good thing. Hopefully we will see a slight bump in FE games.

Already seen it.  It was called Awakening.

Nintendo mobile strategy is brilliant tbh.

Mini-games that are fun to play and work as adverstising for the "real deal", it works great.
