Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Obsidian on why their Microsoft published XB1 RPG Stormlands got cancelled

^^ Phantom Dust, Scalebound and Recore are games that should never have been greenlit in the first place.

What Obsidian seems to be describing is their own incompetence. Why MS even bothered with them is beyond any form of reasonable comprehension. They haven't made a good AAA game since KOTOR II. Fallout expansion packs do not count.

Indeed they also should not have greenlighted Lost Odyssey/Tales of vesperia/Blue Dragon/Infinite undiscovery/Last Renmant/project Sylphyeed/magna carta 2/ninety nights and so on because it hardly help sell the platform more....Still I am happy that they did.

Xbox team had some great guys like ED fries who joined the original Xbox team and said games should be made without worrying about the financial business side otherwise I am out.   One of the things he did is helping to greenlight Psychonauts but MS condemned him and said the game will be unpopular and simply immature...And that has lead to MS cancelling the game and Double Fine almost going bankrupt....Later Psychonauts released with amazingly reception and Double fine would have been a first party for MS sad that it didn't happen..

Why would a developer cooperate with Microsoft after so many cancellations and studio shut downs?

"There's games that had a $10 million budget and had a champion and ended up the budget was $60 million and it shipped." Quoted from OP.

Can't help but to think that in a case like this that champion has to be 100% sure the game will be high-quality and successful. And still have some serious balls heh.
