Not meeting expectations isn't an, "failure overall." It failed to meet expectations, agreed.

Adding any feature costs money, making games costs money. X1 BC is a feature that brings in revenue because X1 BC = More 360 software sales.

Again, 4K Bluray is not an expensive addition to the console. Adding up the cost between every X1S and Scorpio sold is irrelevant. Per device, its not an expensive feature. I agree its niche, but it objectively adds great value considering 4K players are expensive.

I reiterate, lowered expectations isn't, "failure overall."

That is an overall failure. The definition of failure is litteraly "omission of occurrence or performance; specifically :  a failing to perform a duty or expected action"  Especially when it fails to meet them by alot. It did not perform as expected, it failed to perform as expected.

Yes, adding any features costs money, but it's money they wouldn't have had to spend if it were selling better. As I explained, the revenue brought in from BC is going to be miniscule because you don't have to buy 360 games to use it.

Of course adding up the cost of 4K Blu Ray is relevant. If it's $10 more per unit, then for every 100,000 systems they sell that's $1 million that they would have made if it weren't included.

You seem to be looking at this from the perspective of a consumer and sure, as a consumer, the Xbox One is great. But for Microsoft it's been a failure.

If the X1 manages to be profitable, pushes their services, and encourages MS to continue with Xbox... I fail to see how that's an "overall failure." But I don't want to argue semantics, so lets move on.

You're assuming 360 BC only exist because X1 hasn't sold better, any proof of that? Nope. Again, it was a highly requested feature and they were able to deliver because of the modest 360 specs (compared to PS3's cell processor). X1 BC will help sell millions of units of 360 software and moves hardware. You're looking for a negative spin but its a popular feature.

Remember when people used to boast about hardware features? Now we people boast about consoles for lacking features to save money. In the grand scheme 4K Bluray was not an expensive feature to add and something MS can boast about. Which is worth something given how expensive UHD Bluray players are.

You want to make this a black and white situation. I can think of home console and a handheld console that objectlively failed recently. I'm saying there is a gray area, it failed to meet expectations but is still doing quite well. Espeically if this momentum continues.

1. There is a possibility that X1 sales are undertracked like how it was showed in France and Germany after 2015. Dont just assumed X1 is only overtracked. Also there are more ways to make a profit on Xbox like Live, accessories, software, etc.

2. Huh announcing Scorpio wasn't an expense on Xbox One or else it wouldn't have been #1 selling console on some months or how very close tight the One and PS4 were during the holiday months even with the PS4 having the Slim and Pro advantage. No they are not pulling out they need Xbox as a gatway to Windows 10 and to reach a wider brand of audience.
