Forums - Sony Discussion - F**king Ni No Kuni, why do devs do this?

I'm talking about griding to materials to finis a quest. I've decided at the beginning that I won't be going for the platinum as its too much of a hassle. But at least I wanted to complete all the side quests. Then I start this mindnumbingly dull quest where I need to farm for a rare drop. I spent 2 hours and got a grand total of 0 today. I need 3 more to go and I don't understand why devs make these choices where you have to farm for 10 hours to get something. If it was just 1 quest, you could say I should just leave it but you need those drops for the ultimate weapons as well.

And it feels that this is a very Japanese design choice. People shouldn't have to grind to complete a task in games - we're not in the 80s anymore.

Then don't play it?

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

I got this game when it came out and I just got the platinum like a month ago. It was a freaking nightmare.
The grinding requiered is too much, getting the materials for the alchemy quest is annoying as hell - not to mention the "alchemize 120 items" trophy.

As for the quest you are refering, which I imagine is the war god's axe quest, try this: Put everyone's tactics to "do nothing" and use Oliver's pulse spell to hit the golden familiar that drops the item. The pulse spell always gets a "nice" bonus which gives a chance to get a golden blim, if thats the case switch so Swaine to grab it and his Miracle Move guarantees you get the most uncommon item the familiar drops, which is the one you need for the quest. I had to learn this method to finish the quest, because otherwise I'd just leave it, since its too much time consuming.

Guys if you're bothered so easily then jrpg aren't for you.
I found Ni no kuni's platinum pretty easy and just a little time consuming, but not that much. Got my plat in about 110 hours which is the usual amount I usually spend on a jrpg.

Yeah, that's the quest. I've been trying the golden glim/pulse trick but my luck would have it such that I'm only getting golden glims in al the other battles. It doesn't help that the golden Humpy-Trumper only shows up once in a while.

Lesson I learned awhile ago - JRPGs are the pits for trophies, just turn the notifications off before you're lured into monotony, grinding the fun away.

I really enjoyed this game and had no issues with platinuming it nor did it take long. :/

Lol. I hope you never play FFX or FFXII.

I don't recall having to grind in FFXII. And I did beat Yazmat and Zodiarc. Can't really remember FFX but I know I got all the ultimate weapons.
