Forums - Gaming Discussion - Michael Pachter Talks Xbox Scorpio And 4K Gaming

The Xbox Scorpio is launching later this year- and with a 6TFLOPS GPU, the system is slated to be the mot powerful console ever made. Microsoft is clearly banking on the Scorpio to be a success- but Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter thinks that the machine is overengineered, and probably promising far too much.

He says that microsoft spent too much time building the system!

Might as well just make it a next gen console with full BC.

Sounds like a huge gap, its going to probably be held back by the X1 though id imagine. Hopefully you can see a bigger difference than that of the ps4 to pro.

It wont be held back. Thats like saying the wii held back the 360 and ps3!

Excellent. I'm looking forward to the Scorpio launch. The most powerful console in human history will be worth the wait.

Still wont make me buy one... If it doesnt have the games i want the huge amount of pixels wont change a thing.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

woah, sounds scary powerful!

He doesn't say the Pro will mostly do 2 million pixels (1080p), he says there's a lot of room between that and 4k.

Anyway, his use of Oculus as a reference is really odd. You don't need to spend $1500 to run Oculus, it generally requires higher frame-rates to what you see on a console, and the Scorpio isn't even out for almost a year which drives its price down further.

I don't know If I'm skeptical because I don't like Xbox or because I really don't see a point of buying a console just because the same games you can already play are now a little bit more detailed.

It's like saying "you know that PS4 Pro that plays a little better? Now it's even a little better". Very niche market...

3DS, Wii, PSP, Vita, PS2, PS3, PS4 & Steam.

"1080p is 2 million pixels, 4K is 8 million pixels. My understanding is that Oculus runs at 2.6 million pixels, so Oculus isn’t even 4K. So when they say Scorpio will be 4K, if Oculus with a $1500 PC can’t be 4K, do you really believe Scorpio, at $400-$500 can be 4K? I don’t know, I want to wait and see. So it sounds great, and everyone is excited, but… who has a 4KTV?’"

I got a 55" 4k tv.
