Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Sun/Moon numbers a proof Nintendo should continue release games on 3DS

Well, Nintendo themselves keep reiterating that they will keep supporting the 3DS concurrently and independently from the Switch and will continue to make software exclusive to it.

It's the last part I find worrying with regards to switch, because part of what makes the Switch exciting is the posibility of having the whole force of Nintendo support behind it. At the same time I think they realize that with the rising popularity of the 2DS, the 3DS has to become their budget system, if anything.

Nintendo fans should want 3DS support to be dropped because why would you want your games on a vastly inferior system instead of a better one? I don't just mean graphics but also controls, for instance I wanted to like Kid Icarus Uprising but it controls too poorly on 3DS.

and with this, it will be the 3rd thread regarding this subject.

You should just accept that Switch will be the main console for nintendo this year and the ones that will follow.
3DS will just keep receiving some spinoffs and budget titles from nintendo untill half of 2018 or earlier.

I sincerely hope the next gen of Pokemon is Switch exclusive, but I can easily see Nintendo being too chicken to let go of their 3DS audience.

Honestly this kind of fear is so irrational xD Who is expecting a new pokemon for 3DS in 2019/2020? It doesn't make any sense.

Frankly, there shouldn't even be a new Pokemon for 3DS in 2017 or 2018, the sooner they make an exclusive one for Switch, the better. That would pretty much single handedly ensure Switch's success.

The problem though is that they absolutely need new hardware if they want gen 8 to be even a bit more  ambitous and and slightly biggerthen Sun and Moon. Since anyone who has played the game can that game pushed the 3DS to its absolute limit and even had to cut features like tripple and rotation battles, and Pokemon following behind you (this was proven through a datamine since walking animations for all Pokemon including Shinies and Megas were found in the files of Sun and Moon) since the 3DS couldn't handled them. Gamefreak has no choice but to bring Pokemon to the Switch moving forward if they want to even try and make bigger and better games.

Ambition hasn't really been a priority for Nintendo for a while now. Some of their flagship Wii U games were essentially just Wii/3DS game with a HD paint job. There is some hope that this is changing; Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey for example, but they've certainly shown themselves willing to make iterative sequels instead of pushing the envelope.

Nintendo could release a new Pokémon game for the DS, and it would still sell well. All this is is proof that Pokémon games sell well.

It would sell a lot more on 3DS than on Switch.

Nintendo and Gamefreak won't want to release a game on Switch that will sell 2-3 millions when it can sell 10+ millions easily on 3DS while costing a lot less to developp.

Do you seriously, honestly believe that a Pokémon game on the Switch would sell 2-3 millions?

A  lot of people buy the console for Pokemon, but not at that 300$ price tag. People acting like the price don't matter are not thinking. People who buy the console just for Pokemonare buying the console if it is cheap.

It would sell massively less than on 3DS and cost way more to develop. Gamefreak developpers are probably financially interested in the sales, and they won't want to cut their bonus for nothing.

Nintendo has a good history of extended support. Since NES. And even DS got a brand new Pokémon after 3DS release ( Black and White 2 right?). There will be good games coming for 3DS for at least one year before support starts to drop.
