Nope, they definitely shouldn't keep FF as PS exclusive. And porting was worth it also because otherwise I wouldn't have played it.

Yep, Xbox has an audience for the game, however small.

Pretty silly to wish a 3rd party multiplat to be exclusive for purchase justification sakes. Luckily SE does not have the mentality of a 5 yr old.

Just go ps4 only at launch with a pc release 1/2 years later. A large chunk of the small xb1 sales will get it on ps4/pc anyway so you really aren't missing out on much.

If Microsoft paid for the xb1 port then I'd give it to them.

The port is on its way to selling over a million copies. Take off the fanboy glasses for a second.

No, the large chunk of xb1 sales won't buy it on ps4/pc. Almost all xb1 sales come from the people who want this game on Xbox not any other platform.

Most are FF fans who'd want to get it.  And a large chunk of them most likely have access to a pc / ps4.

Most die-hard FF fans are already on PS4 I think

For FFXV, yes. For FFXVI? Largely depends if the Xbox FF fanbase can be retained.

No reason to turn down the extra sales, there's no guarantee everyone who bought it for XB1 would have bought it if it were only on PS4

I think these things are incredibly hard to determine. Some of the things one needs to take into consideration:

1. How many people are ps4/xb1 owners and would have bought it on ps4 if that was the only option (i.e. your point)?

2. How many people would have bought a ps4 for it?

3. How would it being an exclusive have affected its sales because of the hardcore fans or the fanboys?
(one needs to consider the brand. Weren't there reports of Japanese players considering XIII being available on xb360 a betrayal and refused to buy the game? Don't know their numbers but the company sure doesn't want anything ruining their image, even in the eyes of idiots if there are too many)

4. What kind of push would have Sony provided that would have saved SE money for ads?
(Sony could have made it the holiday bundle and sales would have been much higher)

5. How much did it cost to port it?

6. Would it have come out sooner if it weren't for the xb1 port and if so, would it being available on Black Friday have affected its sales?

edit: 7. Did MS pay SE to port the game on xb1 and if so, how much?

I'm sure there are more that I forget. Bottom line is, we'll never know and things are not as simple as presented here.

Its probably gonna do around 1M on the XB1 when its all said and done. Don't see why anyone should turn that down when you consider it probably didnt cost SE an arm and a leg to make the XB1 version.

For any other game that they are making though, its likely they may not make an XB1 version. And instead just focus on PS4/PC.

I am of the same thinking. Technically, it did no different than The Witcher III has pulled off and will probably do marginally better. Still, given The Witcher keeps getting ports, I think they should keep porting their FF series games. As someone mentioned, porting no longer costs anything.

But I agree. If they are porting one JRPG series, they should limit themselves to Final Fantasy and keep niche ones out.

Also, I can now confirm the thing we use RPGs for seems to be mostly character creation. I already created like 8 characters for Skyrim! Must be the reason why story driven games don't sell tons on the One. We are the multiplayer console now. Great...

I like FF, but not as much as I hate Sony...
