Forums - Website Topics - Discuss: Harsher rules on non-gaming threads

Politics threads really bring out the worst in some people, god damn.

Yes, and it's even worse when some users act as if they're entitled to behave that way (or antagonize other users into battles). This is why I say we refine the rules and keep certain people out of political topics altogether. That way, those that want to reasonably express themselves (or discuss a topic) are free to do so.

You know very well that translates to banning anyone on the right and leaving the liberal left to circle jerk in political heaven.

That's not honest politics.

I'm not saying it's bad from a social perspective but if you are going to do that then just get rid of it altogether.

Lol. A liberal here, I agree with the general message you are trying to convey, there will be no right way to moderate the political topics!

So just give users the option to filter them out of the home page of vgchartz and leave those who like those topics in peace

harsher rules = censorship.

U are welcome !

Very much agree.

Liberal persuasian relies on inference and suggestive language which by it's nature is not bannable. Right leaning people tend not to use inference as much and are more direct. I don't think changing the rules will benefit the substance of discourse at all.

It might look a bit nicer and feel more gentle but people who post in political forums are hardly political virgins to begin with and know very well what they are getting into, it would appear at least.

If an argument is that caustic and offensive to a general populous it should be pretty easy to tear down.

Shaming and ridicule is the only way to combat "alternative facts". When the president can deny photographic evidence of his inauguration and he can deny scientific evidence of global warming. This emboldens many people. You cannot regulate or moderate them, you must ridicule them, shame him back into the Shadows.

We could probably do with a mega thread, at least.

And to be honest, this website has lost lots of its charm with the absence of original "charts & numbers"-based topics, most of those topics, if not all, are copied and pasted from Neogaf as they are, even some of the replies to those topics are copied and pasted.

The off-topic sections, including the political one, are maintaining the personal identity of VGC. If that's gone, then I might as well start making use of my neogaf account, because VGC will truly turn into a poor's man Neogaf. Much worse than that if you factor in the fact that VGC is hell to browse on mobile devices, is riddled with annoying ads, and isn't getting new features or aesthetic enhancements anymore.

Ha. Not as long as we can express an opinion other than, "Sony is good and Republicans are bad!" without being dogpiled and eventually banned.

The republicans are bad, and with Nintendo charging for online, SONY's good again. Where's the problem?
