Forums - Politics Discussion - Scientists want to breed pig-humans to harvest their organs

No, just no. Scientists need to learn that some things are off limits. Creating weird human-pig hybrids just to harvest their organs is way over the line, it's downright morally reprehensible.

Why? This could end up saving a lot of lives one day. Stopping this kind of research just because a few people get grossed out is more morally reprehensible than the research itself from my point of view

Creating creatures that are part-human to harvest? You don't see an issue?

This is worser than Hitler "scientists". Sadism is NOT science.

I think some of you may be misunderstanding what this is. These aren't going to be human/pig hybrids in the sense that they are literally half pig and half human or anything. These will be pigs, with human cells spread throughout their bodies, that allow them to grow human-compatible organs. They aren't more intelligent than regular pigs. They won't have human physical features beyond some internal organs like hearts or livers or whatever. Creating and butchering one of these for organ transplants is no different than breeding and butchering pigs for food.

Now yeah, one day maybe we can use this science to breed pigs with actual human brains or something, but the science for that is even further out than the science for this stuff, and is also genuinely unethical and kind of pointless to do from a medical perspective.

If we can figure this out, it'll be a boon for medical science. The problem with human heart transplants isn't that we don't have enough people donating their organs when they die. In many cases, the organs aren't useable. In others, they are old. There is the issue of compatibility with patients. And then there is the medical regiments patients have to go through afterwards, which someone else here already went into.

I'd recommend watching this video from SciSchow, which explains things pretty clearly:

How is this any worse than breeding and genetically modify animals specifically to be turned into food

People are supposed to die though. That's the natural order of things. There's nothing wrong with trying to keep people alive but there really has to be limits and well messing with dna, creating fucked up hybrid species, growing them and harvesting their organs... that's way beyond where the limit should be.

Do you think everyone that gets and organ transplant is in their 90s? This tech is going to be used to save a kid's life one day

"part-human" If that doesn't bother your concious then I guess I have nothing to say.

Part human but still not human. You must get really uncomfortable when you see a chimpanzee at the zoo since they are 99% human.

Curious, do you believe it's ethically appropriate to breed and genetically modify animals to be turned into food?

Do you want orcs? Because this is how you get orcs!

I understand the idea here, but this seems inferior to what stem cells can do if harness correctly and stem cells seem a lot less gross.
