Forums - Politics Discussion - Scientists want to breed pig-humans to harvest their organs

This gives hope for the thousands of lonely men out there. Pig vaginas.

We probably wouldn't have to do this if only people donated their hearts and lungs when they died. Since so few do that we have to make do in other ways.

So in other words, if you oppose this you should get yourself a donor card. If everyone did that this kind of thing wouldn't really be needed anymore.

disgusting

At least it gives people a chance to survive. You would think that would make people ok with a bit of disgusting, but appearantly not.

Didn't read the op by the way, since I've read the case before. But keep in mind that they stopped this project before any sort of brain cells developed, in other words before there in any way could be "life".

China has become so obsessed with stem cell research in the last few years. Last time i remember, the research's only limited to using non-viable embryo.
I got the chance to work with the person who discover crispr/cas (the same tool used for this experiment). I'm sure she didnt expect ppl to use her finding for this kind of research

As I understand it pigs also have a special regenerative cell or bacteria that scientists have been trying to figure how to use for humans as well. I guess this is what they came up with lol.

This is a separate project. Scientist have been able to grow functioning mouse pancreases inside rats already, and now they are trying to grow human organs inside pigs. This is because humans themselves don't want to give away their own organs when they die (and the organs are also often old and "tired"), so there's a deficit in functioning organs for transplanting.

The chase for immortality...

Lifes problems and issues stem from the concept of death (religion, legacy, etc.).

Uhhhhh... yeah, death is pretty much the bigest problem of life.

No you are mistaken, this *isnt* the problem they are trying to solve.

The problem is that you put another humans organ in another human, then they are still limited by time and they have to take medicine every day for their life as the body would fail the organ (the medicine is pretty hardcore as well). The idea with this is that they would grow you a body part using your own stem cells in another way (in this case a pig). So when they put it in your body your body would recognise it as your own and would not fight it.

Thats not to say they wouldnt be able to improve the drugs that keep people alive (at the moment transplant patients have a limited life time), but using a persons cells to create new body parts is the key to extending life of those whos organs fail, donations do help but its still a limiting factor.

True, organ rejection is serious business as well. But the first step here is still that we don't have enough organs to go by as it is. This is a fix for both problems, a good one at that.
