Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Opinion: Microsoft Positioning Scorpio As 'Next Gen' Console

I don't see how that would work.

"Next Gen console" with no exclusives will get laughed at.
"Next Gen console" with exclusives = massive riot from everyone that was lied to and bought the xbox one/s.

So unless they do something weird like "no exclusives for two years" THEN include exclusives I have no clue how this will work.

Some of the best selling games on 8th gen have been 7th gen games. People upgraded knowing they will get a better version.

Given the botched launch of Xbox One, some of the negative perception still exist, it might not be a bad idea to hype it as something new even if its really not. Kinda like Windows 10, its basically just an improved version of Windows 8. Not sure how they can pull that off though given it will share content with OG X1.

My prediction is Scorpio will share all games with OG X1 for atleast three or four years. At some point MS could make a more powerful box, then developers can ignore OG X1 if they choose.

Well, as Switch is around the corner to start next gen, and MS could try to take advantage of it, so PS4 would be seen as old system and force Sony to launch PS5 early. By the time PS5 is out in a year or two, Switch and Scorpio would already have big installbases. If you think Scorpio would not work now, it would be the same for PS5 when it's out.
Megadrive was able to mine into SNES success because of the early launch, and no doubt the early launch of 360 is largely to thank for the success it had.

And most importantly, if MS says Scorpio is their next generation hardware, that's what it is.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

I can see it being a next gen console. Xbox is already losing the race this gen. Might as well start all over again. The more important question is: what does this whole new gen console have that the prev gen doesnt have?

If all games offered 4K/30FPS, 1080p/60FPS, all this spinning will be forgotten.

Next-gen or not, it's gonna flop anyways.

Yeah, but our "gaming circles" are the minority.

This is what people don't understand on forums. It amazes me.

I see it all the time in my industry (VC) -

Them: This is amazing! Everyone loves it!

Me: Have you talked to anyone who's not an engineer or scientist.

Them: No...?

Come on, do you honestly believe the masses were attracted to that vid because of the specs? They were attracted to it because it was 'next gen'.

Then, please, explain why the PS4 is kicking the XBO's butt?  Even in the US (though, not at such a large extent) when the 360 dominated America?  Let's not pretend to be naive just so you can push your point.  You're better than that.  People knew the specs on the PS4 were better.  That's part of the reason the PS4 outsold the XBO, even when it was $50 cheaper some months.  And they also knew about the 180 MS pulled.  Something that left a bad taste in gamers mouths.  Even if people didn't find this info out first hand, they had gamer friends that were informed.  News spreads.  And a XB2 that's not really a next gen system is NOT going to get those gamers excited.  Not with a real next gen PS5 just around the corner.

Price and brand strength: tons of people still argue that the XB1 is more powerful, and many more used to.

Yea because DRM crap they tried to pull didn't reach out side of the net.......

The average person doesn't even know what "DRM" means, though.

Yes, that " second GPU" rumor that was denied after 2 weeks by MS itself is still alive in some gaming sites.

No but they don't need to know what DRM means to be affected by the massive negativity that surrounded the Xbox One Product/Brand because of it.

If something is surrounded by negativity it will affect them, whether they understand why or not.
