Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Opinion: Microsoft Positioning Scorpio As 'Next Gen' Console

They cant be that stupid.

When a PS4 upgrade can more then compete with it and will benefit from the combined install base.

So Scorpio 1.635 will compete with PS5 ?

When compared to the Pro, yes, but if seen as a next gen console it has a free run until the PS5 comes out. It's not about power or any of the obsessions forum users have and think the worlds like that, it's about perception. MS want it to be seen as the launch of a 'new' XB console and not as a mid gen upgrade.

So what you are saying is Scorpio and Switch are 9th gen consoles that will compete with an 8th gen PS console? That sort of perception would put ps4 on the backburner and if they succeed in doing that to the PS4 then it will put pressure on Sony to come up with its own 9th gen more quickly. It would also mean that the 8th gen essentially lasted only 4-5 years

It doesn't have the hardware to be a "Next gen console".
Microsoft will get ripped apart in various gaming circles if they take that marketing angle.

I don't think MS would really care that much. If the install base was higher, and Xbox One sold more organically, I think they'd be less inclined to alienate the current base. I think this console is the stepping stone to moving forward though. I mean, they've done this before. MS is in the console game to be the market leader, no matter how long or how many tries it takes. Nursing a low userbase with diminishing returns isn't in the cards when they're VERY preoccupied with their competition.

Right after MS announced the Scorpio during their conference, I have repeated from that moment to now that "it is a next gen console (Most powerful console ever. A console to end all future generations.) being damage controlled as being part of the Xbox One family (We jumped ship early because we are getting destroyed so we'll do all this backward/forward compatibility stuff so no one gets left behind)."

Yeah, but our "gaming circles" are the minority.

This is what people don't understand on forums. It amazes me.

Yea because DRM crap they tried to pull didn't reach out side of the net.......

But your comments are almost exclusively composed of snide remarks like this... Not mine. :/

Question is why would people want gaming to slowdown. Why not push the boundaries of gaming? Bring us power, being us games.

Agreed.  I am glad to see these mid-gen upgrades.  I just picked up a PS4 Pro, and I already own an XB1, so I may not pick up Scorpio at launch.  But, it is still great to see MS moving gaming forward. Likewise, it is great that PS moved things forward with the Pro and PSVR.

I don't understand how anyone could see it any other way.

I'm flattered that you consider yourself an expert on my post history, but per usual you are incorrect. Surely we can discuss this privately if you wish, no need to crap up a.conspiracy thread with your personal opinions on users :)

Ok, I exaggerate. But you do that A LOT! Which is sad, because when you do make serious comments, you can have down to earth and insightful comments.

Basically... I think you're better than that.
