What's the wrong with dying over and over again? I beat Bucky O'hare on NES just before christmas (first time in more than two decades), it took me 1,5 to 2 hours just to beat the final boss - I just kept dying, and had fun.

The problem with games today is, that you don't die that easy (aside from some cheap deaths). What you describe isn't the game being hard, but the opposite. The game flows easilly, and when there's challenge, the jump feels too big and you die. You don't want to start again because sitting trough and maybe dying again isn't worth it.

I think Metroid Other M, for example, took 45 minutes before encountering  the first challenge in the game.

Bucky O Hare is awesome. Don't know how many times I beat it.

You should try " Battle of olympus" on nes. It uses the Zelda2 engine and is also pretty good and really challenging game.

Stay away from mid 80s to early 90s games if dk is too tough. I agree they are hard games but straight from cranky kong "git gud". I think a easy mode added is fine but don't change the core gameplay. Now battle toads is just tight ass hard.

If you thought Tropical Freeze was hard, you should play DKC2. Have fun with that.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I thought the fact that it was challenging was a selling point

disagree whole heartedly. Something like New Super Mario Bros is boring as hell because it IS wayyyyyyy too easy.

The last thing a Donkey Kong Country game should be criticized for is being hard. You just didn't try hard enough. If the next DKC game was not challenging that would alienate its fanbase.

Again, NSMB is aimed at kids and general audiences. it is overbearingly easy to the point where you're just hopping around catching coins practically

Wait are you sure? My wife like got all the KONGS on every level and opened all the secret levels and ive never even seen her play a game before outside of Wii sports and Candy Crush? Somehow she got hooked on DKTF I remember her showing me all thelse letters she had got and stuff. She did say she used youtube now and again but c'mon  if she can do it then it can't be that hard. Now BloodBourne I found that game hard

I dont consider TF a hard game. As a whole, I dont consider DKC a hard franchise, so I cant quite agree with you there. If anything, platformers have a tendendency to be easy and that's not always a good thing.

errr, almost all of the DKC games get SOMEWHAT challenging on first runs of levels later on in the game. Some have points in which if you haven't played them before it can just simply be difficult to predict or see pitfalls (minecart levels this can be the case obviously as well).

I agree DKC generally is not incredibly hard if you're used to platformers, but it is one of the harder platformer series when compared to things like Crash and Mario and SPyro

Point of this thread: It's not too late to make the Donkey Kong games better. Make them easier so everyone can play and love DK. I want DK to survive. My theory is Tropical Freeze didn't sell that well compared to other Wii U games is because its difficult. People played DK Country returns and found it too hard.

I can guarantee you that isn't the case. The original DKC games were all much, much harder than either Returns or Tropical Freeze and all sold well. TF didn't sell quite as well because it wasn't the return of a beloved franchise and it's on the Wii U.

I wouldn't be opposed to the addition of an optional easy mode, but there is quite a lot in TF that already makes things easier. If you're having trouble, Dixie's team up ability turns enemies/objects into extra hearts that can stack on top of the full four, allowing more survivability, as well as items you can buy making you invincible for a limited window of time. With that said, DKC has made its name on being a hard platformer. Nintendo already has an easy platformer; Mario. Including an easy mode isn't likely to win many people over to DKC, because people who want an easy platformer are already playing Mario.

I do think DKC has not returned to its SNES levels yet either unfortunately. Still solid games but I find the levels less solidly designed, too 'busy' in some cases and I cannot stand some of the added mechanics (banging on the ground all over to get bananas and traps, Diddy Kong having a jet pack, etc.)

still one of the only good surviving platforming series so hard to complain though

I keep hearing DKCR is difficult. I still don't understand why. Sure, there are easier platformers, but there are also a fuckload of far more difficult titles. I don't know, I think the challenge is about ok in DKCR. Even hard mode is far far from impossible or unfair. You just need to get into the flow of the game, same as with Ninja Gaiden on NES which seems ridiculously hard at first glance, but is actually very doable once you get a hang of it.

tl;dr: git gud
