Forums - Politics Discussion - Doomsday Clock ticks 30 seconds closer to midnight, thanks to Trump

Fortunately you Europeans have all those young able bodied Muslim men to join your armies that you recently let in. You'll be kicking Russia's ass in no time. Well except those times of the day when their asses are pointing at the sun...

For some reason I take offense to this. Observation of faith hasn't stopped muslim troops so why should it hurt anyone else? It would be like saying christian troops are only good 6 days a week and the time to attack is on sunday.

They have a population of 1.3 billion people, so those statistics don't really mean much. Most Indians are poor.

The only thing that doesnt mean much is ur uneducated wishful thinking. Economy of India is booming.

Most Indians are poor but this is coming to an end quickly.

Yeah, not at all. It's easy for an underdeveloped economy to grow...

Listen I can understand that u are from Greece ( 2010 - 10 thousands charity free-food points in Athens alone ) and u got a problem with people who really works, but can u at least stop spreading ur FUD already ? The rich-poor line is not created in a stone, the ones who are yesterdays dirty poor losers may become super rich tomorrow. And the same mechanism works in second direction, my Greek .. friend.

BTW I am full of respect for ur tourist-driven super developed economy.

Thanks. EOT.

Considering all the ways the late Obama administration tried just about everything to provoke russia, I have long expected the doomsday clock to be advanced this time.
This is not really Trump's fault, it would have been advanced just as well if Killary had been elected.

During Obama's reign, the doomsday clock was advanced twice, by not just 30 seconds (which is the smallest advancement the clock has seen so far), but a whole three minutes altogether - strangely, back then the mass media hardly even reported on it...

I like how over the past several years the so-called doomsday clock has been closer to midnight than it was during the Cuban Missile Crisis which was arguably the height of the Cold War. Apparently they see global warming / climate change, which are both naturally occurring events, as bigger threats to the planet than mutually assured destruction due to nuclear war.

Alot of the things being said about Trump today are the same things people were saying about Reagan in the 80s... that we've got an old senile dude in the White House with his finger on the proverbial nuclear trigger. Despite all the alarm bells being rung by the media and the political left in the 80s, things turned out pretty well (for the most part) under Reagan. It will be no different under Trump, so everyone can just relax with the hysteria.

The rich got richer and the poor got poorer. That's your definition of things turning out pretty well? Not to mention that he mishandled the aids epidemy.

Overall yes.  Things were sure as hell better in the late 80s than they were in the 70s, or even a good chunk of the 60s.  The rich being rich is nothing new.  They've been getting richer for a long time now through both Republican and Democrat administrations.  They got REALLY rich in the 90s under Clinton during the height of the tech / dot com bubbles, but for some reason nobody ever brings that up, it always goes back to Reagan.  And the rich did even better in the 8 years under Obama in the aftermath of the '08 crash while the little guy got stuck with the bill for it.

Boy, we really showed Wall Street a thing or two and taught them a lesson, huh?  And we were all set to install one of the biggest Wall St cronies of them all into the White House - Hillary Clinton - before Trump went and ruined her coronation.  Now we've got to move the Doomsday Clock forward to almost the closest to midnight it's been in its entire existence, all because the global elites' candidate of choice lost the White House in a humiliating defeat to Donald Trump of all people.  Add Brexit and the potential breakup of the EU on top of that, and one thing's for certain... there won't be a One World Government anytime soon.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I don't live in Greece anymore though.

The reality is that India is poor and they're lagging behind even China (which also has a long way to go before the average people there enjoy Western standards of living). Saying that will quickly change is naive. Although I do believe China will become a superpower one day, maybe even the superpower (like they were in the past).

Western economies  are driven by debt alone, and they keep printing money ( ECB,FED<Bank of Japan etc ) just like Zimbabwe back in the days. That's all. The booming "populist" movement in Europe, Trump etc is the reaction for this. Thats all.

Don't think he'll be a threat nuclear wise, seems unrealistic. But his stance on climate change is quite unfortunate. If he follows through he'll push us further towards the edge, that's for sure.

I believe we are already getting in the news exhaustion phase. Basically their is so much negative/pro news posted that people get tired of it and don't put any attention anymore. It always happen after people feel they can not trust the goverment anymore and feel like they are on their own.
